That is not the case. When Microsoft had announced the aforementioned search feature, companies such as Apple, Yahoo!, and Google THEN started to follow suit. Your mention of Be in the 1990's is not relevant to what the market sought in 2003-current.
Microsoft should not be labled as either a copy-cat or incompetent in this instance. Even IF they did "copy" said feature, does that really matter? Further, ALL companies have done some form of "copying," and they are NOT "incompetent" for such practices. This is corporate America, what should one expect?
