I've been using GoboLinux for several years now on my home server and also in Parallels for testing Linux compatibility for work. I really love it. It is almost perfect, and its flexibility really makes my life easier, but I just couldn't quite switch to it for general use.
As I see it, the real problem is software installation. It's great to have programs organised in directories under /Programs, but I'd like to create my own hierarchy.../Programs/Media, /Programs/PIM, /Users/me/Programs/LatestAlphaSoftware etc... There are ways of working around this, but GoboLinux isn't really designed with that in mind. In the meantime, I'm working on a tool that will make it possible to move & reorganise bundles, a bit like in MacOS X.
