Mac OS X MacNN reports that Apple today released Mac OS X 10.4.2, which the company says delivers overall improved reliability and compatibility for Mac OS X v10.4 and is recommended for all users. It includes fixes for file sharing, authentication, autologin, AirPort/wireless access, several graphics updates, .Mac fixes, Apple's core applications, and more.

I opened up this page in Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
The stats were:
Safari: 23.39MB real, 238.44MB virtual
Firefox: 54.1MB real, 421.05MB virtual
Internet Explorer: 32.24MB real, 238.88MB virtual

Although not conclusive by any means, Safari doesn't look too bad.

BTW: On my machine that has 1GB ram, Mac OS X allocates 7.65GB of virtual memory. Hence, I don't think we have too much to worry about.

Please don't get tight on caching and pre-allocation :-)
