Well, and I think there might just be an active effort to kill commercial RISC OS, by some hobbyists.
At this point, the people that actually care about advancing the platform treat it as a plaything, something to mess with in their spare time when they're not developing for more modern OSes. The people that think the platform has a future as a commercial OS... well, they're not making enough money to give it that future.
Operating system is only as good as the software it has, and RISC OS has some very good software. Linux on the other hand is only suitable for web browsing, as it has lots of software but most of them are crap.
For most people desktop is the operating system. They only care about the user experience, not what is hidden behind the user interface. ... And about the Unix way of doing OS, that way is almost as old as the Beatles. Does that make it better?
Have you even tried later version than RISC OS 3.

Then it's their problem and I have no sympathy. They can do what they like, but it will annoy me if any real development money is spend pandering to these die hards. It's over, we lost. Unix way is a better way of doing OSs anyway, go and work on the Rox desktop if you must, but a OS is not it's desktop, RiscOS itself is not worth keeping.
