I wanted to like Unity, but so far I haven't been too pleased with it. The user interface isn't great, nor is it very gast.
Unfortunately I also think that Gnome has been going in the wrong direction for some time. It looks like Gnome3 will be even worse, but I'll reserve judgement until it's released.
I'm sure glad that Xubuntu is out there. Simple and fast, the way Linux should be.
