Google "Just as expected, Google unveiled its wireless payment system and its new Groupon-like deals site at a press event in New York on Thursday. Called Google Wallet and Google Offers, the two features can operate either separately or together to make it easier to pay for things in person and get deals while shopping."

Anything that weakens the Paypal stranglehold on online payments is good news.

The main trust of this is not against online payments, but towards in person payments. Paypal isn't happy because it wanted to expand into the physical relm. According to news reports today, Google was going to team up with paypal to create google wallet, but decided to just hire the paypal employees and do it themselves.

There is a lot of misinformation floating around about google wallet, the official links are the best to go by. I heard a mainstream radio broadcast this morning that was wrong on all accounts except for the fact that it was called Google Wallet.
