Mozilla & Gecko clones Mozilla has released Firefox 7. Unlike releases of Firefox 5 and Firefox 6 which were relatively minor upgrades to the browser, Firefox 7 includes a number of significant improvements, most important of which is probably the drastically reduced memory usage.

Version numbers are retarded when it comes to consumer software that doesn't have any platform characteristics.

Browser have extensions, but maybe the solution is to either promise backward compatibility or use a distinct version number for the "extension platform" visible only to developers and power users.

Anyway, I still see the need for version numbers when it comes to libc and linux images.
