Fedora Core Good news from the Linux world. Fedora has announced its intention to drastically alter the file system layout of its Linux distribution. The plan's been out for a while, but was brought to my attention by Brian Proffitt (still the best name ever) over at ITWorld. The gist is to move all binaries to /usr/bin, and all libraries to /usr/lib and /user/lib64.

Why are you whining about Windows and OSX in a thread about a change in Fedora Linux?

No whining -- just stating facts.

You made a vague, unsupported whine that Linux has "layered" fixes. My question would be: "Compared to what?" Which OS is did you have in mind that is different, and exactly why is it different.

Regardless of what's done in Windows and OSX, the topic is Linux and what should be done there. If you want to soil about Windows and OSX, start a new thread.

My friend, "Welcome to the Internet!"

Forum threads often grow and develop in unpredictable and interesting ways, and trolls do not determine the rules of what what is accepted as on-topic or off-topic.

In truth I made an accurate statement that is common knowledge and a view shared among many linux developers/contributors. Join the linux kernel mailing list and see for yourself. It's not as if I've just revealed how the Egyptians built the pyramids.

And, "compared to what?".. Compared to nothing, we're not talking about OS comparisons here. Start a new thread if you want to talk about that.
