Most of that was the alpha transparency and clear type that slowed it down.
I neglected to say that I was a part of the XP beta via MSDN and didn't really see the benefit of switching from 2K to XP.
In many ways, I saw the beginning of the Vista disaster in the 2K to XP switch.

There was nothing wrong with VISTA tbh. People complain about it but all the issues with it (which weren't many) were fixed around about Service Pack 1 time ... VISTA Service pack 2 is pretty much Windows 7 underneath.
If you think Windows 2k was the pinnacle of Microsoft's Tech you are quite clearly deluded.
