Apple Apple has announced an iPad event for March 7 - iPad 3, obviously. The invitation clearly shows a high-resolution display, and some argue it's missing a home button (we'll see). If this really has a 2048x1536 resolution... What do you mean, leap-frogging the 'competition'. So, anybody want to buy a relatively pristine iPad 2 with grey smart cover? Comes with the box and warranty and everything?

"Except, none of the release cycle was much of a secret. Not if you pay attention.

I'm sure most people who aren't tech-savvy and/or giving these things as gifts probably isn't keenly aware of Apple's release schedules.
"

Most people who aren't tech savvy don't care. Those who care only need to do 10 minutes of research.

Then why not release the iPhone earlier in the year, and release the iPad around the holidays? At least with the iPhones, people are probably going to be getting new ones when their contract is up, so it doesn't really matter as much when they release them.

Because people would get an iPhone for Christmas and then bitch about the fact the refresh happened 3 or 4 months later. Honestly, there's no good time to release a product. None. Everyone's a critic when they fucked up and didn't put in the research. That goes for ant company and any product line too. Apple is not a special case here.
