Has any linux GUI developer ever sat down and said to windows users how they would want their desktop environment to look/feel?
Yes Sun paid for and organised a usability study on Gnome 2 in the early 2000's in Ireland with Windows users. The improvements resulting from this study in part made the later releases of Gnome 2 as good as they are.
Still using Gnome 2.3 in Ubuntu 10.04 today.

With it's cheap looking imitation of the Apple desktop, surely Apple should be going thermonuclear on GNOME for the total ripoff of the OSX menu bar at the top etc
The amateur look and feel of any linux distro in general. The whole Linux experience feels like its done by high school kids still living in the 1990's

A missed opportunity lost time and time again.
