Linux I volunteer as tech support for a small organization. For years we relied on Ubuntu on our desktops, but the users didn't like it when Ubuntu switched to the Unity interface. This article tells about our search for a replacement and why we decided on Xfce running atop Linux Mint.

Yeah, having tired of rebuilding my mum's spyware ridden Pentium M ultra-portable I wanted to find a linux distro with minimal graphical guff since all she does is browse the web and grab photos off her camera.

Having tried out Mate on very minimal Debian and Ubuntu installs as well as Ubuntu 10.04 (when they still used gnome 2) and feeling underwhelmed at the performance compared to WinXP on that hardware I gave Lubuntu a whirl... it was perfect for her after moving some UI elements around (essentially to mimic windows) and I've not had to fix it since.
