Speaking yesterday at Apple's European conference, Apple Expo in Paris, Jobs said: "Microsoft is copying us with its operating system... Dell's trying to copy us with its hardware. Rumors are swirling around a FAQ page for Google Secure Access Beta (of course) software that appears to be a VPN client. "If you choose to use Google Secure Access, your internet traffic will be encrypted and sent through Google's servers to the Internet. The data that is received will then be encrypted and sent back through our servers to your computer."

McNealy: Sun Is the Next Apple; Shareholders Take Aim at Sun

Sun CEO Scott McNealy likened himself to Steve Jobs and his company to Apple Computer on the brink of launching the iPod at a convention Tuesday, suggesting the server maker is poised for take-off. Sun has been on a five-year stock slide, having lost about 90 percent of its share price since January 2000. It has not had a year of positive net income since its fiscal year 2001. In the meantime, shareholder activists are calling for Sun to do away with its "poison pill" takeover defense and realign its executives' stock option plan to be more performance-based, according to a Sun proxy filed Tuesday.

Previously, only RISC OS software programmers could sign up and pay for the ARM9 powered computer, which is still in a beta stage of development. The machine runs RISC OS Adjust 4.40, a strand of RISC OS developed especially for the new machine.

The software giant will realign several existing units into three core divisions - Platforms and Services; Business; and Entertainment and Devices - that better represent Microsoft's goals, said Steve Ballmer, CEO. Apple Servers Drive New EU Supercomputer

A startup on Tuesday unveiled plans at the Apple Expo here to build a distributed supercomputer cluster that could use some thousands of Apple's Xserve servers. The high-performance network will be installed along Europe's internet backbone, startup Omneta said.

Intel Claims Ultra Low Power Breakthrough

Chip firm Intel said it is developing an ultra low power version of the 65 nanometre process technology specifically for notebooks and other small devices. The firm said that with transistors on some chips over the billion mark, it has developed tech which it claims will cut down leakage by 10 000 times.
