Along with the release of the new Windows Vista beta, developers are being treated to technologies to create applications for the new operating system. Microsoft last week gave developers access to the WinFX Runtime Components Beta 1 and the WinFX SDK. FlexBeta has a video of Vista beta 1.
I find the close and minimizing effect disturbing, first they look quite similar to me and then the minimizing effect doesn’t show where the window goes unlike Apple’s genie effect.
Looks…like…ass.
What about Bonobo? I heard it’s much cooler than .NET.
Something doesn’t look right about new windows zooming in like that. I want them to just appear. Zoom out when I’m minimizing them if you want, but when I click something to make a new window appear, that’s user input that should have an instant response.
I can imagine that getting old really, really fast after a week of every new window zooming in at your face like that.
Ha ha ha…did you see your dad when you wrote that comment hahaha you dad is an ass thats why you are in this world…Luser
The maximize effect is very fast (the effect is almost unnoticable), you can’t get your mouse in place fast enough where you would have to wait for it.
compared to OSX and even Project looking glass which has been freely avaliable for a quite a while.
Try the LG3D webstart, all you need is Java5 and your good to go.

It might seem a minor thing to gripe about, but I do not like the new “accessibility” icon. Sure for anyone who knows how to read it’s not a problem, but still, the old icon was way more obvious when you’re in a hurry.
I need more sleep ๐
Slightly different color scheme and effects, but ultimately, it’s still the same XP-look. Compared to MacOS X, it’s totally unimaginative (overdressed 89SE/Me). Now, what is it they’re supposedly going to be “copying” from MacOS X (remember the whole “Redmond, start your copiers.” banner thing at the Tiger Premiere)? I don’t really see a single thing! Nothing about Vista even remotely looks like MacOS X, to me.
Oops, I meant 98SE, not 89SE… I think whatever “89SE” *might* have been was in whatever version of MS-DOS there was, at the time! ๐
Look at the ‘back’ and ‘forward’ buttons in Windows Explorer…. they’re exactly like the ‘open’ / ‘close’ / ‘minimize’ widgets in OS X windows, with an arrow. Some note the placement of the search interface… not nearly as good IMHO… For that matter, the whole ‘glassy’ / ‘aquaish’ treatment can be found everywhere in Vista… Of all the infinite possibilities for texture, why did they choose to ape Aqua? Can they think of nothing on their own? Have you seen RSS in IE 7? Way too similar to Safari RSS…. what about their search results page? Their lame-ass version of the ‘genie effect’ is yet another example – and like the ‘recycle bin’ before it, not nearly as effective (before you ask – “Recycle Bin”???? what, do your files get recycled? Personally I prefer mine “Trash”ed) Again, yes, I know this is Beta1, final look and feel are a ways off… it’s my opinion that they’ll only copy more. To me, it’s just totally annoying…
This video was difficult to see. This tool is better for producing such recordings:

“Developers Get New Tools for Vista”
My suggested tool list:
1 Trashcan
All that’s required is to drop Vista into the trashcan and move on.

Hardware accelerated windowing (OS X 10.2)
Integrated desktop search (OS X 10.4)
Virtual folders (Smart Folders from OS X 10.4)
Real-time search fields (iTunes and OS X 10.4)
Variable-sized icon grid (OS X 10.0)
Integrated RSS (looks very much like Safari’s RSS page)
Combined stop/refresh button (Safari, Opera)
I could think of many more.
Did they ditch the sidebar idea? I hope so….
OS X
They didn’t copy the widgets, thank heavens for small mercy’s.
Or did other people find the video boring… Lets open a window, lets close it, or wait for it, minimize it…
I know we need to see that, but lets see some other stuff too, like some apps running up, IE running & rendering and so on…
Does the nsa key look as pretty as the desktop?
5 in all, right here

You may want to try out this XAML Designer for WinFX for building new UI’s. The company name is Mobiform and the free beta software is Aurora. It also integrates into Visual Studio. Here is the link:
