The Gnu guys would support this Unitedlinux is it was UnitedGNU or UnitedGNU/Linux or United/GNU or….. 🙂
United Linux is just a move by a few companies to move upmarket and be able to charge more for their obviously inferior offerings.
Why not simple merge instead of playing this stupid game? They sounds like chickens at breakfast. Yeah, they’re there, but they are simply not as committed as the pig.

They aren’t inferior, they are just battling for different niches and regions. So one day they all realize they are wasting money doing the same redundant thing when they could group up and use less money.
GNU failed to understand UL. They think they are mixing propreitary software with free software but in reality they aren’t. SuSE, Caldera and Turbolinux (not Conectiva though) would have their own propreitary stuff like YaST2 and so on, while Conectiva could still have their GPL stuff. UL is just the base of the distribution, minus the trimmings and polish.
From a market sense, these companies are obviously failing to compete with RedHat. And so are inferior.
United Linux is the middle ground of trying to get three individual companies to cooperate on one OS. This is a pipe dream and will be grossly inefficient, especially given the free-wheeling mindset of the Linux community.
They are obviously going to kill themselves as three companies vs. merging and becoming one powerful company.
The problem that these companies are trying to solve is not just code. If they are serious about going after the enterprise market, they will put aside their stupid alliance and merge instead.

Out of 11 people that cared enough to answer the poll, 5 believe it is just a marketing ploy.
Clearly as the traffic on this article and the poll show, no one really cares about United Linux.
