NetBSD continues using the FFS file-system by default while it’s offered ZFS support that has been slowly improving — in NetBSD-CURRENT is the ability to use ZFS as the root file-system if first booting to FFS, for example. There may be another modern file-system option soon with an effort underway to port DragonFlyBSD’s HAMMER2 over to NetBSD.

I hope this opens the door to HAMMER2 getting ported to OpenBSD. It could use an updated filesystem.
It would be a lot of work and for most OpenBSD users the current FFS is just fine.
The OpenBSD devs have been open to the possibility of porting HAMMER2 or modernizing the FS when the topic has been discussed in the past. They’ve point to not really having anyone who’s familiar with filesystems for sticking with FFS.
OpenBSD partitions the disk heavier then other OSes, and some more modern features would be nice.
The more ports the better for hammer2. With all things DragonFlyBSD, it sounds great but if something goes wrong there aren’t many places to turn to, especially if you’re doing something odd or using unusual storage devices.
The only gripe I have with Hammer2 is that it lacks extended file attributes, which some admins really need. Otherwise it is a very promising file system.
