Intel’s Core 2 Duo will be unveiled at an event scheduled for July 27 at Intel’s headquarters. The desktop version of the Core 2 Duo, formerly code-named Conroe, will be the focus of the July 27 event. A notebook version, known as Merom, will follow in August.
I’ve been hearing lots of rumors that Core2 will be ‘sooo much faster’ than Athlon-FX, but after the whole “Itanic” saga – I think I’ll give this chip at least a year for them to work out the kinks. I’ve been waiting for some time, and I think I’ll stick with my plan to get either an AthlonFX64X2 or OpteronX2. I really don’t trust Intel’s marketing, they’ve been stumbling around ever since NetBurst ‘bursted’. Maybe when the final comparison comes out, I may be interested – but I think I’ll get more bang for the buck out of a dual core Athlon.
I can’t remember when did new chip bring this sort of performance over previous generation. Whatever Intel did with Conroe, they did it right. I’m just hoping 965 chipset will be released on time to follow Conroe. 975 is just too expensive for my budget.
One thing I haven’t heard “leaked” yet is the price. How will they compare to the AMD X2 (and previous Intel chips) in price?
Conroe comes in much cheaper than AMD’s solutions. Expect AMD to slash prices dramatically over the next month to stay in the game.

…every CPU on the market.
Alas, the page is in Russian, bet there are diagrams and charts in English. So judge for yourself

Time will tell if AMD’s current offerings will be hammered into the ground by Conroe. What sucks is that it is going to take so long for AMD to launch the K8L to fight back if indeed the Conroe is an AMD killer.
