Since it’s year end, I thought I’d post one more “fun piece” for everybody. After Thom posted an article on his customized KDE desktop, I thought it might be interesting to compare desktop screengrabs and see what other OSNews’ers desktops look like. Are you cluttered or clean? Are you minialist? What’s your wallpaper? Upload a picture to an online service or your own website and show off your desktop. I’ll start: Adam’s desktop (312kb).
Here’s mine, very minimalist

Kubuntu Edgy, looking fairly defaultish. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep the purple for
Flickr terms require that I link to the photo page, click on ‘all sizes’ to see it large.

now that the fun is over 🙂
But here’s mine:

This is on my old laptop that I play around with. Was feeling bored one day, and came up with this.

Xubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) with the MurrinaFancyClearlooksSky GTK theme. Oh, and Beryl.
OK, I too use beryl-manager to turn Beryl on when someone’s watching

……..and no it ain’t a fake this is the real deal.

I currently have two desktop machines. My windows box is a pretty default install… nothing fancy. I use it for playing EQ2 and WoW and such.
My laptop on the other hand I use for programming, work, email, chatting, etc. Currently it is running Ubuntu 6.10 + Beryl.
I do not use a taskbar (I hate task bars…), so I generally organize my windows on virtual workspaces, keeping things like Firefox and Evolution maximized to their workspace. When all else fails I use the window list (you can see the icon for it in the top right corner), or more recently I have started having beryl show scaled versions of each window for the workspace I am currently on.
I do not keep any app launching icons either, as being an ex MacOS X user I have grown WAY to used to using tools like Deskbar, using Control+Space to bring it up any time I need to launch something.
Sorry for the file sizes of the pics being large… I have not really bothered to convert them.
