Mozilla 1.0.1 is available for download now. This release is a bug fix and security follow-up to Mozilla 1.0. Mozilla 1.0 users that have not already upgraded to Mozilla 1.1 are strongly encouraged to upgrade to 1.0.1. Read the release notes for more details.
Earlier when I upgraded Mozilla it didn’t work (I’m talking about 0.X -> 0.X++ and 0.X -> 1.0 versions). I read that one should always uninstall and erase the prev. ver. before installing Mozilla. But that is not the way it should be.
I will never upgrade 1.0 unless a lot of U lads tell me that upgrading nowadays is smooth.
/daDogg – still virgin 🙂
I seem to remember a disaster upgrading once, too; the bookmarks & all preferences were destroyed. There were all sorts of issues.
I haven’t had that problem since then; the upgrades have always been smooth. I’m running the 1.1beta actually, and installation was a snap.
This is on Linux, no less; for me it’s among the smoothest Linux app installations.
I just upgraded from 1.0 to 1.0.1 with no problems under XP. BTW, I highly recommend trying out the “Demos” link on the page that comes up once Moz is done installing.
i upgrade moz since 0.9.6 on linux & Win2k and i never had any problem. the only thing you have to be certain is that mozilla is stopped. And on windows, that the quick start up is off to.
Go to this address,
http://se.pricerunner.com/phones/mobile-phones
and see mozilla crash:-(
Mozilla 1.1 doesn’t crash there though.
Afaik it is shouldn’t be a problem to update from one major relase to another. Even with nightly builds I only once had a problem and I update mozilla about every week.
I’ve just installed 1.0.1 over 1.0 without any problems on Win2k.
Did you try hitting the back button from that page? I tried to return to this page & it crashed quite nicely.
Weird, I’m using Galeon (1.2.5) and it doesn’t crash at all, perhaps it’s not an issue with Gecko (the Mozilla engine), but with the gui.
I tested almost every page with back and forth button at pricerunner and did not get any crash on w2k with mozilla 1.0.
what are you talking about?
For me, it crashes with galeon too.
About the back button, I haven’t tried it but I’m sure it
crashes nicely:-)
I reported this bug some days ago and somebody answered me and
said it’s fixed (I thought it was fixed for this release) but
I guess we have to wait for 1.0.2 (if there’s going to be one).
Same for me, it only crashes when using the Linux version.
Bummer…
1.1 is not stable .. 1.0.1 is … 1.1 has some serious problems.

I take it back that my upgrade went smoothly. When I click the magnifying glass (search button), it takes me to Netscape’s web site and starts at a Lycos search prompt. I had the button set up to take me to Google previously.
Here’s the strange part – if I go to “Edit” then “Preferences” and pick “Navigator” then “Internet Search” it still tells me that my search button is set to Google. Kinda weird.
wierd – been using moz 1.1 for about two months (1.1a/1.1b now 1.1) cant think of any probs
Mozilla! Security fix!? I thought that only happened with IE?
“1.1 is not stable .. 1.0.1 is … 1.1 has some serious problems.

Not according to anyone I know who uses it, myself included. 1.1 is solid.
Perhaps if you could list the multiple pages on which it crashes and also the talk ID’s which show where it crashed you might actually get taken seriously. That’s not to say Moz 1.1 crashing is impossible, but the general consensus from the Mozilla daily testers is that 1.1 is stable and fast.
“Mozilla! Security fix!? I thought that only happened with IE?”
Well obviously all products have security fixes. But unlike MS which ignores and downplays security issues until they are finally embarrassed into fixing them, Mozilla security fixes come quickly and in the open. IE 6sp1 which just came out left out 20 security fixes.
I personally think IE 6 is an O.K. browser but it’s security track record is pathetic. It along with Outlook are responsible for billions of dollars in lost productivity due to downtime from viruses and the manpower needed to fix them.
On the other hand I get paid to fix MS’s broken insecure software, so I guess I shouldn’t complain 😉
actually, the problems i’ve been having seems to be rather random.. but i am using a talkback enabled build so hopefully whatever is causing 1.1 to act so terribly for me (1.0 was great) they will be able to diagnose and fix.

cut and pasted from mozilla.org
Mozilla 1.1
This is our latest bleeding edge release which contains all the changes that happened on the trunk since we branched for Mozilla 1.0. It contains all the security fixes in Mozilla 1.0.1.
note the words bleeding edge.
“note the words bleeding edge.”
…and also that those words do not mean ‘beta’, ‘unstable’, or in any way not fully release. Just means its got all the latest features.
“…and also that those words do not mean ‘beta’, ‘unstable’, or in any way not fully release. Just means its got all the latest features.”
no.. it does not mean that … but like i noted before… i do get a lot of crashiness. and it should be noted that 1.0.1 is marked as stable. also, looking at the mozilla release roadmap shows that 1.1 is not meant to be a stable branch .. ymmv
hey.. if it works for you.. great
(though i do get a few odd crashes with java and winamp3 now .. its all connected with suspends and the graphics card under windows xp.. so the problems for me might be connected to that)
Go to http://www.hindustantimes.com and click on any Story Link. The page appears but as u hover around the text the Text becomes underlined. Try opening 3 pages & watch Moz 1.1 crash to glory.
I use it on Win2K.
Mozilla 1.0 is slow but it never crashed me once. 1.0.1 is faster but I had just a day to try it & so far good.

I’ve also found mozilla 1.1 (Win32) a bit buggy, but only on one part of one site (the “read comments” links on OSNews, when I have more than one tab open).
Unfortunately, I read this site every day, and every day I forget to use IE instead of mozilla the first time until…
1.1 is not the “stable” build. 1.0 is considered by mozilla.org to be the “stzble” build.
Also, all of this “crashiness”: have you checked the site. many times it is crappy code that crashes mozilla, not just mozilla, though, I admit, it should handle crappy code more gracefully
What is the difference between these two. Does 1.1 have more features but is less stable.
I have had a few crashes with 1.1, but am not unhappy.
Please ignore my post above.
just released

Mozilla 1.2 alpha,
with new feature “Type Ahead Find”.
YOU CONVINCED ME!
IT WORKED!
1.0->1.1 no problema!
1.1 fixed some useability issues from 1.0 for me, but crashes more often. Also, sometimes I get a ‘document contains no data’ message box the first time I try to view some random links that do in-fact contain data. This may not be the fault of the browser, but may be the fault of our awful ISDN connection, I don’t know.
1.1 definetely loads faster than 1.0. The crashes are infrequent enough and the useability fixes (such as not being able to enter a URL or other data into a page if others are open), that it is worth the switch. IE5.1 crashed 10X as much as mozilla 1.0 and better has.
