Just wondering why the english site doesn’t have 8.1 listed like the German site? If I overlooked this, please post the english URL! On a different note, I have played with Mandrake, Red Hat, and Lycoris, but SuSE is the only one that I have completely enjoyed! Good Job!
SuSE is a German company (check the top level domain), so they update their German language web pages first. I assume the translators are busy updating the other languages too. Just like American, Japanese, and other companies typically release their major announcements in their native languages FIRST, then translate them.
Just give SuSE time, or use a web translator.

I have to say that SUSE is the best distro I have used so far. I’ve just tried the RH null beta and I was impressed with how _polished_ everything looks. Nevertheless, SUSE is far ahead in the mixture of usability, power, updatability (?) and looks.
I have a question, though. I’m currently using SUSE 8.0 Personal (DL) but I was wondering what are the main differences with the Profesional version and if it’s worth it the upgrade for a server. Any comments?
SuSE 8 Personal is what I have too and it is really good. I’m not sure about this, but I think SSE Pro simply has more of everything – alot that the indiviual user doesn’t really need. It probably has more networking/server oriented software too, I’d imagine.
With Professional you get 7 CDs, a DVD, and a Reference Manual. Under the hood I would say nothing really is different its just the extra CDs and especially the DVD that has me buying the Professional version. And the reference manual is actually pretty nice to have too but I guess everything is on the web somewhere.
Hope 8.1 keeps the streak going.
Thanks for the details. That’s exactly what I was looking for. Since I update periodically I don’t think there is that much of a need to get the Profesional then. Although the DVD would probably speed up the install process I can live with a long net install.
Thanks again.
Free download?
THere will be an easy FTP install and you can also download the ISOS for SuSe 8.1 live when they’re availeable.
Yeah suse is my favorite distro too, and I’ve tried them all. They get a lot of bashing for no reason.
Is there plans on coming out with a new verion of Suse for sparc if, not Is the new Yast2 compatible with suse7.3
I am looking for a way to keep my systems up to date.
