The GNOME Project announced today the immediate availability of the GNOME 2.0.2 Desktop and Developer Platform! The GNOME 2.0.x Desktop and Developer Platform releases are devoted to bugfixes, translations, user interface consistency, and general polish of our major 2.0 release. In GNOME 2.0.2, you’ll see the results of continued performance and stability work, plus plenty of bug fixes: 318 total GNOME2 bugs marked fixed since the last release (including fixes on other branches).
is it released for this updated version yet?
I spoke too soon … it is
Anyone seen screenshots of the new gnome yet? Anyone tried it out? Any noticeable improvements?
It looks the same as GNOME 2.0 and 2.0.1, and the usablity changes are so small, you wouldn’t notice when you glance over on a screenshot.
I’m sure Eugenia can do a full in depth review, 32 pages long, by just looking at one single screenshot… Who need to use the real program? Screenshots are so *much* better!
Even if only one single pixel have changed, I’m sure she will notice, and rightly point the huge usability issue such a change represent.
Mod me down, I’m just bored… making fun of Eugenia isn’t fun any more, too easy
\k
If you’ve got personal differences with Eugenia, try to solve it like an adult, not like a spoiled teenager.
The article says NOTHING about a NeW GUI. This is a stability / bug fixes release. The reference to a new polished look in in refresh to continual work a-a fonts.
In the future, please read the article before you post
if RedHat includes this updated Gnome with its next release (8.0).
Anyone have any guesses as to when they will release it, my guess is Halloween.
why they releasing so fast? i mean someone could just finish to compile 2.0.1 for hours and hours and then an hour later got news that the newer one already pop up! it just too painful to realize that….
Actually, Red hat GNOME is usually quite a bit ahead of the current stable releases. They also do improvements to it that become then part of the next GNOME release (when they are usefull). I’m sure that Red Hat 8 will even contain some parts of GNOME 2.2. At least I hope so.
No guess about the release date, I just hope they take their time. I want this to rock so I can buy it.
bahamot: If you don’t have problems, you don’t have to recompile right away. If you have a certain problem with something, you could just recompile this particular package. Also many packages will be still the same so you should look for those which are upgraded and then decide if you want to upgrade it, too.
yeah i could see your point….. but couldn’t help it, just curious about something new hehehehehe, my fault (i think)…
Tried it out on Redhat 7.3, using Garnome without optimisations and with debugging disabled. It is now very stable and reliable. The great thing I like is the fact they haven’t gone out and tried to add everything but the kitchen sink.
CD Player is awsome. Metacity, very stable and fast. Nautilus, Well, when I loaded it up, I thought I was using something completely different.
Three cheers for the Gnome Hackers. Now, who is going to shout the round of drinks 😉
