The latest issue of the GNOME Journal has just been published. It features an article about GStreamer audio effects, an interview with Ken VanDine about GNOME 2.18 Live Media releases, an introduction to Accerciser, and a summary of GNOME.conf.au 2007. Writers in this edition are Stefan Kost, Paul Cutler, Eitan Isaacson, and Davyd Madeley, respectively.

I’ve never understood why that “news/article-site” even exists. It’s only got 4 updates a year…

http://dot.kde.org is a mix of original articles and aggregated content. If you want original articles about GNOME you can look at http://gnomejournal.org. If you are looking for aggregated information, look at http://gnomedesktop.org

Yer. Dot KDE has been a great news servant for KDE over the years, and people like Navindra Umanee deserve a lot of credit for doing a lot of grunt work (and I mean grunt) on it over the years.
I suppose it will just take something more exciting happening in the Gnome world for perhaps a couple of people to get excited about writing more news happenings.
You’re not a KDE developer, but you have an unhealthy attachment to KDE, where no matter what, you can’t help but to express your bitterness. There’s probably fanboy support groups that can help you with your problem.

Whatever sweetheart. I very rarely comment on Gnome threads actually, so it just shows where you and a lot of others comment and where you get that perception from ;-).
The fact is that, from where an awful lot of people sit, there just doesn’t seem to be an awful lot happening with Gnome on a daily, commit by commit, basis. There’s no detailed commit digest, no detailed description of what is being committed, nothing really to get very excited about, no Gnome 3.0 anywhere on the horizon and the whole thing seems to have got diluted by many core developers having diverging corporate interests. As a community, it just seems to lack………cohesion.
I don’t think anyone is remiss in pointing that out and commenting on it. Sorry, if you feel upset. Maybe you can get some help for that and contribute usefully to the discussion and points raised?

That gstreamer article was a good read. It’s interesting that gstreamer is kind of starting to move into jack territory, and I’ve seen a couple of composition applications using gstreamer for their backends instead.
The reason you don’t get a lot of updates is two fold:
1) we are a small group of people who have very busy lives and we have to balance the time between working on GNOME, day lives, and other matters. If we can grow the group then we can probably get a regular schedule going as other people can cover.
If you want to see regular updates that feel free to volunteer your time. We’d love to see more people and you need not be a technical person. If you’re a technical person and you have non-technical friends who might want to know “what all the big deal is about desktop” then encourage them to join the Journal since really a lot of the time we are dealing with people not the technology.
2) Do you know how hard it is to find people who are willing to write? It’s quite difficult, it requires a combination of bullying and cajoling to get people to write. So sometimes there is a lag because we need people to write/research a particular topic.
So yes, it is a bit chaotic but it can be improved if some of you are willing to put in some time and help us.
