“Miniscule mobile telephones, tiny electronic organizers and portable DVD players are nice. But they’d be so much less cumbersome if they were surgically implanted under your skin. […] The chip, called the VeriChip, is about the size of a grain of rice, carries a number that identifies you and, the company says, may eventually provide a way to make sure that only the right people gain access to secure sites, corporate offices or even personal computers. The chip could also carry access to personal data, like medical information.” Read the (enthusiastic!) article at NYTimes. Our Take: Implantable chips? Over my dead body. I have hard time liking the tooth implants already.
Coming from a born-again Christian background, I’m sorry… but such things simply reek of “Book of Revelation Prophesy is Here TODAY!”
Those of you reading this… do yourself a favor… if you haven’t done it yet…
**ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOR!**
Then, you can sit back and watch these kinds of prophesies unfold AROUND you and not be so worried about it happening TO you!
The only way they’ll get one of those “rice chips” in my body is if they inject it while I’m unconscious… or after I’m dead (not exactly too useful, unless they want to keep track of my corpse (using GPS technology, of course)… just in case I decide to get up and wander off)!
BRAAAAIIINS! MORE BRAAAAINS! 😀

…when they cram it into my cold, dead body…
orwell…1984 anyone?
at least they not forcing us to put it in our hand or forehead yet… but the time draws near. i can see terrorism as an excuse to make this forced on the people of the world by a certain coming dictator…
I find that about as appealing as having a chip implanted in my head. Sorry.
Rev 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
………….
Rev 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
How can we escape the lake of fire?
-Admit you are a sinner and repent.
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
-Believe that Jesus is God the Son – Died in your place – Rose again bodily from the dead.
-Receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour and call him to save you from the eternal fire.
Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
1Jo 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1Jo 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Jesus is Lord – he saved a wretch like me. He will do the same with you, because he loves you.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news to human kind
Hey Luposian,
what you’re writing is bewildering me. Although I have to admit not to be Christian, I have many friends who are, and am also interested in Religion in general. Now let me ask you:
Is this really what a Christian should try to reach? A state
of mind where he doesn’t have to worry about himself becoming Satan’s hostage anymore? That would mean Christianity is about egoism, right, and I’m sure all of my Christian friends would object here.
You’ll probably just didn’t mean it like that…
Take care,
Raphael
P.S.: Gattaca, anyone? 🙂
no im still on to the snake plissken / 1984 meets islands in the net dystopian future…
I for one find religious postings on how bad implants are ironic. (Unless you were really joking, sorry then) Religion has been implanting things in peoples’ minds for centuries. Now that we’re developing technology to do the same everyone runs? Has anyone given as much thought about how such technology could help humanity instead of how much it could damage it?
Where’s your equal criticism of all the bad things religion has caused? I guess that which we do not understand, we fear. If it isn’t all laid out in a story book it can’t be right. Well, there will come a time when the majority of people do not oppose implants or human modification. I guess all this hostility right now is acceptable for us technological newbies. The next generation, as always, gets to have all the fun.
I might consider it if it becomes FAR more useful than just holding my identity. I don’t even have any idea what application that would be. So, I might dislike it but if the value proposition (Is that it? I don’t remember all the buzzwords) becomes high enough, I’ll accept it. But, if some government tries to force me to have one implanted, I’m moving to another country.
am moving to a comint neutral country with decent satfeed
Well, that can be arranged… B-)
when you or your body shows up someplace and no one knows who you are or where you came from the Vet can scan you and return you to your home.
no chances of starting over with a new identity after successfully pulling off a Nigerian Email Scam(tm).
And no more escaping my fans after I’ve become Really Famous. They’ll hunt me like a dog.
Technology is never good nor evil, its people.
And people are truely evil. I think I’ll pass.
Life is more interesting when you have choices, I can see somthing like this limiting them severly.
Though if it could be used to get rid of these religious nuts.. j/k
Why not?
It can be very useful, fake ID’s etc. won’t be possible as easily anymore, and when you have an accident for example, thanks to the medical data which can be in it you will be helped better. It has an interesting side too.
Another, maybe more complex example: someone is being accused of a crime. With the chip, it can immediately be checked where you where at that time. This could be done. Of course, you’ll have less privacy.
And whether we like it or not, I think that we will one day have such chips. Well, not we, but the next generation… who knows?
you (and only you) have control over what data is available to whom, when. obviously you’d want some personal info available to the authorities in the event of your unconcious body being found, but wouldnt you like to decide if theyd get it when you were awake?
you wouldnt want anyone to grab your credit details when you werent awake, but you could voluntarilty reveal them to make a purchase.
at the moment this technology doesnt allow that sort of self-determination of which (if any) details are revealed, and until it does then i’ll stick with the current scheme.
Religion has caused more death and suffering then any technology could ever. Fortuneatly its dieing very quickly. How many supposed bible believers have sex before marriage? How many will continue to go against the bible even after reading this? The only reason people say they believe is fear. They choose the rules they want to believe. They are choosing less and less rules from the bible. jesus loses.

>>Religion has caused more death and suffering then any technology could ever.<<
Examples, please?
>>The only reason people say they believe is fear.<<
It depends. For some people, yes. For some others, no, if they believe they have a relationship with God.
>>They are choosing less and less rules from the bible.<<
It depends which christian group, but unfortunately, yes, it’s often. I don’t get why some churches are allowing divorce although Jesus clearly spoke against.
Why the Revelation speaks about the right hand and the forehead? Most of people are using their hands for working, and the right hand is the main (sorry, I don’t know how to express it better in english). The forehead symbolize the head, where your intelligence is. Thus, people with the mark of the Beast on the right hand and the forehead are working in acts and thoughts against God. I don’t think this concerns this chip. But of course, I can be wrong.
The problem with those implants is that they really limit your *freedom*, and I understand it more in a 1984 way.

The ONLY proven unique identifier on the human body is the bone structure of the hand or forehead. Fingerprints can be changed or removed, and believe it or not – there are naturally occuring duplicates (rare).
Ultimately these chips (when required by law) will contain a ‘scan’ of you hand/forehead bone structures. Authorities will be able to ‘scan’ you (just like a UPC code at Krogers); these scanners will also verify that the ‘bone scan’ on the chip match that of you forehead/hand.
People are lazy and will accept this. It will not be required by law for a while. But imagine going to the grocery store, filling up your cart and walking out without going thru line. The scanners at the door automagicaly scans and totals your grocery bill and subtracts it from your bank account as you pass thru to leave. Yes it will be convienient at first.
Whether you have sex before marriage or get divoreced (the bible does say that adultry IS a valid reason for divorce BTW) has little to do with any of this.
Gods kingdom is going to come. You are supposed to be preparing yourself for this. IF you get the mark, that is your indication that you have accepted MANS kingdom and rejected Gods. Good Luck.
Read you history, basically most wars have religion as part or all as the reason to start. If not religion, then political belief system ie communist v fascist almost as good as religion x v religion y.
Crusades, cristians v Ottoman muslim empires rapid growth
WW2, Hitler hated Jew, so later….
Or how about 9.11 result of religious terrorism, I think so!
Back to the story, didn’t read it, I won’t register to read any story.
Anyway we already have fingerprints, retinal patterns, voice prints, soon DNA will give up vast quantities of information everywhere we go unless you wear a clean room suit. Most of these can easily be forged, but thats mostly in the movies!
I will be watching what the leaders of major religions and churches have to say about this. If the Pope, the Dali Lama, the JW and LDS faiths individually speak out against this I will take that as a clear indication that this is the manifestation of the prophecy in John’s revalation.
Regardless, I will never accept one of these ID chips and will discourage my family from accepting one as well. John the Revalator’s visions of modern weapons and warfare have been correct. He was very accurate about modern transportation as well. I suppose we only have a few months to wait and see the beginings of a great backlash and war against Israel and the US from Arab nations. I’m going to side with John on this one and not Bush and the Republican corporate whores in congress.
Thanks
WW2, Hitler hated Jew, so later….
Oh, this is rich.
Hitler spent most of his energies not on killing Jews but on killing other Europeans. He felt Germany had some scores to settle from WWI, and had the right to dominate the lesser races of the earth. He may have had a special place in his heart for Jews, but that was not the cause of WW2.
As for religion causing “most” wars, let me start naming a bunch of famous wars of the last few centuries & see if the anti-religion crowd can legitimately pin down religion as the cause of any of them:
The Seven Years’ War
The American Revolution
The French Revolution
The Napoleonic Wars
The Mexican-American War
The American Civil War
The Revolutions in the Americas
The Wars to Create and Preserve the British Empire (Boer War, Afghan Wars for example)
The Spanish-American War
The Crimean War
The Russian-Japanese War
World War I (The “Great” War, or “the War to end all Wars”)
The Italian invasion of Ethiopia
The Spanish Civil War
World War II
The Chinese Revolution
The Cold War (the Korean War, the Vietnam War, American intervention in Grenada, Russian intervention in Afghanistan, the Sandinistas vs the Contras)
Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge
The Falklands War
The Iran-Iraq War (Gulf War I)
The UN-Iraq War (Gulf War II)
The Breakup of Yugoslavia (beginning with Slovenia)
If you can tie a fair number of these to religion, or name more wars over the same time period that can be attributed to religion, I will concede the point.
This thread has gone green & mouldy
you know everyone should shut up. The religious folk believe so they won’t change their mind. the freethinker folk knows they’re right and they won’t change their mind. So please, stop this endless debate, because we won’t get anywhere, because we haven’t for 2000 years.
My company is loosly asociated with ADS, and I can tell you this: VeriChip is all smoke and mirrors. All it is, is a SamrtCard chip that can hold a tiny number. It doesnt have any receiving ransmitting technology built in. You could compare it to a Chevron Speed pass 🙂
See, you have to look at it from this side: I am more worried about the state taking my fingerprint at the DMV (because I can’t change my FingerPrint) then about the VeriChip, because at least you can change the ID on the VeriChip with minimal programming knowledge 🙂
REligion doesn’t cause wars. It’s the perversion and bastardization of the faiths that do. It’s the PEOPLE who pervert the religions to their own gain that cause the wars.
“>>Religion has caused more death and suffering then any technology could ever.<<
Examples, please? “
The crusades. The “discovery” of America (become a “Christian or die”, “salvages have no soul”). Salvery (it’s ok to make a non-chrisitian a slave, he has no soul, etc .)Witch-hunting.
Will you count the millions?
C.
Salvery (it’s ok to make a non-chrisitian a slave, he has no soul, etc .)
Actually you have that backwards. This argument was used as an answer to the objections religious people had to slavery, who insisted it was wrong to enslave someone with a soul.
See for example http://www.newadvent.org/docs/pa03sd.htm
Of course, religion never seems to stop people bent on greed.
I could have a frickin’ laser beam attached to my head!
Bah. Whatever. Regligion is just like technology. It can be used for both good and evil. Just another human made device/system/framework like so many of the other things out there. Waiting to be used and abused.
but hey … i wouldn’t mind a tiny computer the size of a grain of rice embedded in my hand.
over my cold, dead, Jesus loving, Bible beliving, being saved, anti satan body.
but then again i dont have to worry about it (mark of the beast). 🙂
computers are nice but how do ya think all the silicon got here…
God luvs ya
Jon
i got nostalgic, read through burning chrome again, hehe, its just like the almighty gibson prredicted it would be, now i just need a VRdeck from sandebenders…
“computers are nice but how do ya think all the silicon got here…”
I think the answer to that would be stellar nuclear fusion reactions occurring deep with the smaller stars. Same as all the other elements after hydrogen. The real question is how did the hydrogen get here and the 1st event. Not all us believe in your God crap!
If there’s anything controllable by others, it’s staying out of and off my body.
Anyone read 3001? It has interesting proposals of this kind of technology and does not creep me out nearly as much as non-fictional references to it do.
your crazy.
First we get these chips implated. The we get chips implanted in our eyes impove vison. And chips in our ears. The chips in our brain enhancing our mental capabilites. Then we get robotic limbs and organs to make us stronger and more healthy. Then we are linked to
a collective conciousnis.
Then we go around saying “We are the Borg. You will be assimilated into our culture. Resistance is futile, you must comply”
Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean we should.
If it were not for modern technology I would have died from “natural” causes when I was 18. That is why I look at it all kindly, as this is borrowed and free time.
Anyway, yes I’ll take the chips. I need an organizer nearby. How about a mobile phone chip thingy between my hearing and speech. I can’t wait.
Of course I want the ability to shut the chips down, like when i walk the woody trails invading personal property. Or visit the wrong side of the tracks.
If god did not want us to merge with machine he would have not given us the ability. And in the distant future we can leave the machine and oh laa laa. He/she/it only cares what’s in your “heart” anyway.
Religion and technology have nothing to do with each other.
Every time there’s a leap in science or technology, it’s considered blapsemy.
The world is round ?!?!?! Burn them !!!
The sun is in the middle of our “solar system” ??? Burn burn burn !!!
I guess that the Inquisition was nothing but a golf club and that the witch hunts was a children’s game like cops ‘n thieves.
I just “love” all those hypocrits who talk about “their” religion while ignoring more than half of it. When’s the last time you’ve bothered reading the Old Testament ?
Did you bother reading your so called “holy scribes” in their ORIGINAL LANGUAGE ? No, you’re just a bunch of silly ignorants. Educate yourselves !
Funny that the countries with the least poverty are also the countries that follow god the least? And isn’t it funny how these same countries became successful the same time at which the citizens stoped following many religious rules?
For a bodycount of the people personally killed by God or ordered to be killed by God, check out this tread http://pub5.ezboard.com/fsabdiscussionboardcrueltiesandviolence.sho…
More on topic, we already have A LOT of identification cards, numbers, etc. (think visa, online profiles, passports, supermarket value cards, etc) This chip offers to few if any additional benefits to ever take off. Besides the whole notion of implantable electronics will remain a non-issue until there’s also a power-source small enough for implantation.
