It adds a time and date stamp plus a carriage return at the end of the file. The other answers are incorrect. It is an access log and is not automatically saved by default. It has its uses…

Its not the same, it could insert it without carriage return, or it can insert the line using line feed instead of carriage return, or it could do both, when you use the files for multi-platform purposes, this stuff matters.
Actually no it doesn’t matter. Because when you use files for multi-platform purposes, you use a decent text editor that can handle difference between DOS and UNIX EOLs (or in the worst case scenario, pipe your ASCII through unix2dos / dos2unix).

But the whole point is the question is about Notepad and not something more advanced like VIM.
It is still completely worthless knowledge though.

I scored an 18 out of 20 not so much for my deep knowledge of Microsoft OSes (hint: It’s not as deep as it should be given my years as a Wintel user). Rather it was due to my uncanny knack for remembering useless information I might have read ten years ago. Internet questionnaires tend to bring such trivia bubbling to the surface.
Granted, more than a few of my correct answers came from personal experience; I remember well when System Restore was a big deal in WinME both for its promises and its failures. I’ve also personally experienced the dual-boot bug that wipes restore points. Others were guesses and I was purely lucky, like the Notepad .LOG question (it seemed logical) and Windows Live Messenger Companion. Still others had nothing to do with Microsoft and Windows but are common knowledge in the geek world, i.e. Ctrl-Alt-Delete and cut/copy/paste.
And the two I missed? The number of Windows 7 versions; I couldn’t care less as I was only really interested in Ultimate. The other was the “system.filename” question. If I had ever had occasion to use it, I’m sure I would remember it. Then again it’s quite arcane.
Don’t feel too bad. I didn’t fair much better (6 of 20) than you did. I’ve been a Linux user since 1997, but work around Windows by day. A good deal of what was in that quiz is quite obscure, in my opinion.

But I want to comment on the 32 bit windows version memory question.
None of the answers is correct, as it lists 32 bit versions of windows 2000, xp, vista and 7.
windows 2000, and xp gold, xp sp1, supports PAE, and so has 36 bit memory space, and so supports over 4 GV
Starting with xp sp2, this 36 bit memory space has been disabled, and so it’s limited to 32 bit memory space, resulting in max 4 GB, but usually around 3, depending on the adresses the hardware uses.
Since the situation is different on these versions, the correct answer is not listed.
None of the client 32bit OSes support more than 4GB of memory. I’m not sure if wink2 client version runs PAE, but if it does it’s still limited to 4GB.
XP definitely does run PAE when available, but you’re wrong wrt. XP, though (and I do believe the memory limits were changed in SP1 and not SP2).
Later-than-RTM XP still runs PAE (for NX-bit reasons), but it has changed “4GB physical memory supported “to lower 4GB physical memory”. The reason is there’s a crapload of extremely poorly written 32bit drivers… stuff like “hey, I’m a 32bit driver, I only need to bother with the 32bit PHYSICAL_ADDRESS.LowPart”.
I’d say that “It depends on device memory allocations” is a close enough answer to the question, when you forget about XP RTM
32bit XP Service Pack 2 does not recognize over 3.5GB of memory.
What you are saying is true of Windows Server 2003 (we had 16gb per web server and 32bit OS).
Windows Server 2003, yes, indeed it doesn’t enforce this limit either, but also on the workstation releases prior to XP SP2.
Yes, it was in the license you are not allowed to use that much memory, but this limit wasn’t enforced before.
And my reaction was limited to those versions listed/the workstation releases.
This is more of a trivia quiz, not an IQ test.
It doesn’t indicate how intelligent you likely are, but rather how much trivial knowledge you possess.
And no, I’m not just saying it because I only got a 45% even though I use it every day. Who wrote Solitaire and where did the XP wallpaper come from are just pointless trivia.

I was actually just going to comment on this, but it seems you were faster. But yeah, IQ and knowledge are two entirely different things. Sure, they complement each other, but one can know a lot of things and still be pretty stupid and vice versa.
