“Ruby. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? “Oh, yeah, I think it’s one of those new object oriented scripting languages”, you say. I know a lot of you might be thinking “Not another new language! I’m perfectly happy with (COBOL/C/cshell/awk/Perl/…); why does the world need another programming language?!”, while a few others are thinking ‘Cool, a new language to explore’.” Read the rest of the article, an introduction to the Ruby programming language, at FreshMeat.
I will make it my personal mission to include it in llamaX, or whatever we decide to call it when it actually boots.
I can’t think of anyone who would be thinking “I’m perfectly happy with COBOL”… that’s like saying “I’m perfectly happy with sitting on broken glass and razor blades and then swimming in vinegar.” There’s a reason that COBOL is being phased out ASAP, it’s a pain in the ass to work with.
I liked COBOL… it was kinda like an old teddy bear that you bring out to look at on rainy days and reminescene over the good old times.
The next thing they need to phase out is C++, Java, and VBScript. Lets focus on ASM/C for performance coding, REBOL for dynamic/AI/internet/GUI coding and French for the unwashed masses – no scratch that, the unwashed masses can live out their HTML lives in unicoded Frontpage…
(I seem to recall reading somewhere that you should never re-read things you write on news forums after midnight…)
