KernelTrap has an interview with Marcelo Tosatti. Marcelo became the maintainer of the 2.4 stable kernel when he was 18 years old, releasing his first kernel, 2.4.16, on November 26’th of 2001. Two years later, he recently released the 2.4.23 kernel and plans to soon put the 2.4 stable kernel tree into maintenance mode, only addressing bugs and security issues.
*feels stupid*
Dude, this guy must be half geek half nerd! Seriously, an 18 year old? Damn, that’d have to look good on you’r resume wouldnt it? Imagine just coming out of university and saying you’ve been maintainer of the linux 2.4 kernel since you where 18 or something like that. Reckon you’d have trouble getting a job?
Damn, i wish i found programming at an early age, like skating too.
Just focus on these facts:
John McCarthy was in his 30s when he gave us LISP and the basis for time-sharing operating systems
Dennis Ritchie was 31 when he created C.
Gene Amdahl was 45 when he gave us his law.
When Seymour Cray gave the world the CRAY-1 he was over 50!
I am not Rodney but thanks you anyway. I feel better now, too.
😉

I think he didn’t go to university (yet)… so he’s not “coming out of university and saying you’ve been maintainer of the linux 2.4 kernel”
Victor.
not only that but he’s now 20 and is married? :-O
some people just move fast in life!
This could give M$ amunition in their anti linux compaign. “Linux companies have 13 year olds working for them in sweat shops.”
It is really odd that this guy started working for an ISP at age 12. I guess Brazil has different child labor laws. I’m jealous though. I wish I had as much experience as this guy has.
Everybody has its own strong points…
Some are good in programming others a good in painting..
Me? I am reasoable good in programming but i am better in
driving a rally car.
As long as Marcelo is doing its job like he is doing for the last two years i do not care if is 18 or 20 or 14.
Way to go Marcelo
Well, I was a professional beer drinkner at 18, how does that compare? hehe =)
Happy Holidays All,

hmmm
“JA: This means you were 13 or 14 when you started working for Conectiva? How did you come to start working there at such a young age?
Marcelo Tosatti: Yes… I was working on the ISP I mentioned when I mailed Conectiva asking for a job and we talked, and I started working with them.”
i will try to BELIEVE that! i promise!
