Hans-Joerg Frieden, Thomas Frieden and Steffen Haeuser will be attending an #AmigaFun meeting today at 6PM (GMT) and will be answering questions regarding AmigaOS4.x. Also this Saturday at the Alt.WoA Show in the UK, Fleecy Moss (CTO, Amiga Inc) and Alan Redhouse (CEO, Eyetech Group) will hold a presentation regarding Amiga’s future plans.
Note that the realtime chat will start at 7 PM (19:00) Central European Time (CET). <a href=”http://oneworldtime.com/oneworldtime.htm“>Here`s a map to easily see, what your local time difference is to the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
Hmm from the specs I’ve senn Amiga will be again a good alternative, hopefully some other HW developer will buld PPC based motherboard in future.
Eugenia any news about that?
I want to see them live just because they were dead before I even new they ever exsisted. I’m glad I mananaged to find out about BeOS before it…well before it end up in it’s current state. Though if I hadn’t heard of them I wouldn’t have invested in them only to have them hit their long stock skid two days later . I just wonder if this will be like watching Be coming and going… well to where it is. They have a new OS, new hardware and no market. Should be interesting. Curious, how many other companies have tried this as of the last 10 or so years? Be, Next, … anyone else? wow, “Be, Next,” I think there must be a company called “In” and “Line” out there. And we know where that line goes
hmm what is the order? “Next” “Amiga” “Be” ? or “Amiga” “Next” “Be” ?

AmigaOS4 will also work on current Classic Amiga 68k/PPC hybrid systems. Escena and Eyetech’s http://www.stormloader.com/amiga/BAS/“>AmigaOne allows the attachment of an A1200 motherboard for AGA compatbility. This good also because it is unclear if the developers will succeed in ripping out all the classic hardware dependecies in time of the initial release.
There are other hardware solutions under development which will support AmigaOS4.x when the classic hardware dependecies are fully eliminated. For instance http://www.merlancia.com/MISEL/torro.html“>Merlancia bplan” rel=”nofollow”>http://www.bplan-gmbh.de/news/pegasos_e.html”>bplan are developing new Amiga compatibles.
There are more potential AmigaOS compatible PPC motherboards under development. For instance one of the hardware projects within the Phoenix Developer’s Consortium is a PPC based home-computer running QNX RtP and there is no reason why AmigaOS couldn`t be ported to it as well. As for Macintosh PPC hardware support, that’s unlikely, as in my opinion Apple is even more anti-competitive as compared to Redmond’s Bully.

You don`t have to worry about that. Amiga Inc, the owner of the AmigaOS source code are here to stay. They don`t rely on the success of AmigaOS in order to survive. They are currently making alot of money on http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=459“>AmigaDE Home” rel=”nofollow”>http://www.stormloader.com/amiga/BAS/27.htm”>Home Server Platform.
They have a new OS, new hardware and no market.
Actually the Amiga community is still alive and well. Just take a look at this http://www.virtualdimension.de/inscene/amiga2001/indexe.html“>vi… of the Amiga 2001 show held in Cologne to understand this.
Are the new PPC Amgias based on the Open PPC standard?
Just read up on it. Sounds like an interesting initiative. I’d love to be able to go into a store one day and buy an OpenPPC-based ‘commodity’ board from one of the major board manufacturers. Good luck to ’em.
PPC Amiga motherboards are based on Amiga Inc`s Zico specification. AmigaOS will easily be ported to any new PPC solution. Amiga Inc will not act anti-competitive so for instance LinuxPPC and other OSes will be available for Amiga hardware solutions, see it as added value.
Over 180 people attended the conference. 5 Hyperion developers over a hunderd questions (no kidding!) in almost 4 hours time. During the coming days there will be an English (and German translated) IRC-log available at the German http://www.amigafuture.de“>Amiga website.
