“Adobe Systems Inc. today will unveil one of the most important applications for Apple’s MacOSX. The business world was able to hop on board the OSX bandwagon last November when Microsoft released Office v.X, but now the creative community can soon join the converts with the announcement of Photoshop 7.0. Photoshop 7.0 adds new features (the “Healing Brush” is one of them) and, of course, a new Aqua interface, but it’s still the same familiar application that the creative professionals know and rely on to make a living.” Despite the problems of the port, Photoshop 7 for OSX is here. ha ha when did they first talk about this three years ago?
Adobe Unveils Photoshop 7.0 * FULL STOP *
For Windows and for MacOS.
Yes, they kinda forgot the rather well known OS called Windows…
We don’t get aqua but that’s hardly a bad thing
(Don’t remind me of luna)
Damn… I really love Photoshop (and I’m waiting version 7 around the corner), but it’s the only app that keeps me working on Windows. Will The Gimp catch Photoshop one day, and match its functionalities ?
Re-damn…
>Will The Gimp catch Photoshop one day, and match its functionalities?
We already <A HREF=”comment.php?news_id=51″>discussed that!
I’m very impressed with the Gimp, given that it’s been made for free by people in their spare time.
People complain it’s user-unfriendly, but it’s just like Photoshop. Once you learn how to use it, it’s fine.
If a few more dedicated programmers got involved with the Gimp and moved it forward with some features then it would give Photoshop a run for it’s money for people who do web design. Obviously it’s not going to come close for professional print graphics design.
People who touted Paint Shop Pro in the discussion Euginia points to… well, that just made me laugh.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. laugh at my expense. But back then I didn’t know how to use thegimp well and didn’t realize that it was as powerfull as it is…
“But back then I didn’t know how to use thegimp well”
That says a lot about the application doesn’t it?
“and didn’t realize that it was as powerfull as it is…”
Laugh if you want. I think Paint Shop Pro is most adequate and I usually use it instead of Photoshop. The only thing I need Gimp for is XPM editing so I tried the Win32 version. XPM not supported…
Why laugh at Paint Shop Pro? It’s not designed to be competing with full-fledged Photoshop, but rather with Photoshop LE and its successor Photoshop Elements–and in my experience it mops the floor with them. And for people who are doing web graphics rather than print work (i.e., they don’t need things like multiple color space support), there’s a very good chance Paint Shop Pro will do everything they need.
The GIMP is more comparable to current versions of PSP than it is to Photoshop–the things that people <em>need</em> Photoshop for are still things that neither one can do. Whether or not PSP is worth paying for when GIMP is available for Windows is a personal choice–I think PSP is really a more comfortable program to use and it supports some things that the GIMP doesn’t (and vice-versa, of course), but whether it’s $100 worth of comfort is debatable. Even so, today’s Paint Shop Pro is definitely not the toy program it was five years ago.
last time I tried gimp for windows it would crash like crazy.
Paint Shop Pro is a brilliant program, and far easier for those new to image editing to get used to. Photoshop is a bit of a nightmare in that dept. It’s another case of best tool for the job. Some things I wouldn’t dream of attempting in Photoshop.
