This guide is all about optimizing XP. Version 5.0 has more changes than any previous version. The changes include: Tweaking levels added,Bad Tweaks section, Page file section improved, Services section completely revamped, Additions and subtractions to every section.
If I remember right, he got some of these tweaks from
blackviper.com site.

I always thought it was better to have this set to ‘Background Services’. I think this is the first guide I’ve seen that recommends ‘Programs’ instead.
Considering all the talent out there and they fact that so many people use XP, you would think there would be better tweak guides out there. The one here is not that bad for boot performance http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/winstartupnew/
Bootvis is a good tool from MS if you want to benchmark your system booting. Screenshot here http://www.softpedia.com/screenshots/12-2-1_1.jpg

sure this guy might be trustworhty thats not what i am saying. however since nowaday lots & lots of ppl are using winxp. & about 70% of them think as to be geek & speard some performance tips without even testing them. & that might make some problem for joe user running xp on low end comp looking to spice up his system. thats what worries me alot. however there is as i see only one safe way to do it. use tweaking softwares which contain all tested options & that thing. well just my point of view

That’s what worries me too – someone coming along with “Add the Guest account to both the administrators and Remote Desktop Users group to be sure your applications work faster”….
“The best tweak for XP is to just remove it and install Linux instead”
And then when you find out that it isnt really any more stable than Windows 2000/XP and that many of your favorite applications wont work (I wont even go into the hardware situation), then you will realize how nice it is to use Windows and perform an upgrade to it from Linux…
“Windows 98/2000 are better (and faster) choices for just basic operations like gaming…etc.”
Windows 98 may be quicker, but I for one would gladly trade some speed for much better reliability. Besides, just about any new computer from the last few years should have no trouble running XP. I ran Windows 2000 for about a year before upgrading to XP, and I must say that I havent noticed XP crashing any more than Windows 2000 (which I might add were very rare occurances). I have first hand experience that gaming is much much quicker in XP rather than 2000 as well.

I takes all of 6 seconds to make XP look like windows 2000 and most benchmarks support your claim of XP performing better.

This statment is just about as bad as
“The best tweak for XP is to just remove it and install Linux instead”
I will agree with you that Linux and Windows 2000/XP are for the most part simular in reliablity, however the hardware comment and favorite applications are more your opinions. Most of my favorite apps are on Linux, but like I said that is my preference. As far as hardware Linux supports way more hardware than Windows. Tell me one version of windows that can run nativly on Mac hardware or anything other than x86. I don’t see why people feel that Linux or Windows is better. They each have there own purposes, I run both OS’s on two seperate machines and they both perform great. Sorry for making this post a little off topic but I could help but comment on the two posts.
Get rid of it. Stable, my ass not with Hoontech DSP24 C-Port hardware and accompanying drivers. Buggy crap yet under other OS’s the drivers and hardware are stable as a rock. Go figure.
A decrease in app availability is well wortrh it when you have a stable system. You also don’t need countless apps replicating each other just one that does the job and games can be supported and work fairly well especially native where they perform better or at least on my hardware but then I’m not using ATI based products.

Don’t be a dumbass. You know as well as I do that this guy was refering to devices and *not* processors.
I dont know about all the tweaks he has described, and I already have a few of those applied, but I tried out PriorityControl tweak, and I think that it has changed the responsiveness of foreground app slightly on my laptop (I have no benchmarks to back this up, and I’m not entirely sure which benchmark measures foreground responsiveness, so treat this as my subjective observation).

Last time I checked processors don’t run by themselves. They require a ton of “Devices” not only the processor.
I used to use this tweakhounds tweakguide 1 and a half year ago. I found it 1 of the best back then , he used to link to blackviper’s servicesguide. But now he doesn’t and he seems to have 1 of his own… what a pitty , blackviper’s guide gives much more info and that makes it better of course. There’s no 1 option for all computers, with services you have to know what they are needed for .. I saw MS serviceguide he links too and it’s not that good ihmo.
blackvipers guide is full of misinformation. try reading the information at that link you didn’t like.
