I as a consumer can purchase it and the specialized parts that ATI makes for the OEMs. 1800 dollars is a stupid price for a dressed up Tivo (yeah yeah, I know it does more, but it is still to much money for what its main functions are)

I can’t believe they actually expect somebody to put this hideous looking thing in their living room. Anyway, seems a waste of money considering you could probably put together a very useful whitebox for about $500.
You can currently purchase Media Center 2005 and build your own system. Directron and Newegg are two places that currently offer the OS and Remote control as well as consumer electronics styled cases if you want to build a system to fit in with an entertainment center.
The hardware and other components like DVD decoders are readily available from those and other vendors as well.
