“At first glance, Red Hat’s announcement of “Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, the first enterprise-class Linux operating system” sounds like just another dose of public relations hype. Another day, another Linux business announcement. But first impressions can be misleading. Many industry observers think the Advanced Server is a giant leap forward for enterprise Linux.” Read the report at NewsForge. In a statement released to Linux Today from Caldera, the Utah-based firm has some pointed concerns regarding Red Hat’s Advanced Server, announced March 26: “We believe, and some of Red Hat’s own industry partners will tell you, that Linux today cannot scale in the same way that UNIX can.”
anyone knows if an ISO will be available ?
it would be sad if it wasn’t the case …
I think RH has grown thanks to all the geeks, students etc. who have downloaded the ISO and who, after having worked, developped with it, have recommended it to the companies where they work (the company can easily spend 800$ on it). In my case I have converted at least 20 companies to redhat … hope I will be able to continue …
You may well have converted at least 20 companies to Red Hat. That’s cool. But did Red Hat get a penny from any of that? Even if a few of them bought a few boxed products, that’s nowhere near enough money to keep Red Hat afloat. I hope they don’t provide ISOs to the public. If you want to spend $800 and then copy the discs for your friends, I’m sure that’ll be allowed. But at least they’ll have $800 instead of $0 as now!
of course they paid … as I said, I think it is mainly students (without money) who, in the last 5-6 years, have converted companies to linux …
In my case almost all the companies bought the box (800$ is really nothing for them …)
if students can’t download the RH anymore, they will use other distrib and recommend those to the companies they work for …
what company would not pay for somthing like that? I mean, you don’t get support (real support, not the fake micorsoft support) and the execs don’t get the faulse sence of liability that you get when you pay or somthing.
