The annual AmiWest show was held last weekend in Sacramento, USA. As with many important Amiga shows held in the US, UGN provided Amigans live webcam and audio coverage of this event. Most interesting was the live coverage of Bill McEwen’s Saturday evening banquet speech (MP3). Update: Please use the following mirrors for the mp3 instead: USA, France, Norway and UK. Update 2: Sendo has published an Amiga related press release, confirming that their Z100 mobile phone will ship with Amiga software.Amiga’s CEO gives a lot of background information on what has been going on at Amiga Inc during the last two years. Among things he mentioned that the Z100 mobile phone by Sendo and a yet to be announced Linux based PDA will be released with AmigaDE software pre-installed. Next to that AmigaDE software will become available for O2’s heavily marketed PDA/phone combo, through O2 vendors.
The ‘Open Contents Platform Association’ was launched last year to create a common binary compatible environment for cellphones, PDAs, STBs, game consoles, digital TVs, desktop systems and other consumer devices. Intent is the foundation upon which OCPA members are building their solutions.
OCPA members include Hitachi, Sony, Kyocera, PSION, Nokia, NEC, Motorola, Grundig, JVC, Fujitsu, Sharp, Epson, Intel, Pioneer, Metrowerks, Sega, Bandai and Capcom. http://www.ocpa.jp/eng/index.html
Some technology created by Amiga Inc is integrated into intent and alot of other pieces are be available as seperate enhancements to OEMs and developers. Amiga Anywhere and AmigaDE are products by Amiga Inc, based on the intent technology.
The current state of the Global Tech market, has caused many great products to be delayed. However OCPA member Kyocera is about to release a very slick PDA running a standalone version of intent, I have uploaded an image of the PDA at my website: http://www.stormloader.com/amiga/cosmo.htm
Intent/AmigaDE are able of running hosted, as a very thin layer on top of other operating systems but is also able to run as a standalone OS (targeted mainly at embedded devices). Amiga Anywhere players are also already available for Linux and Windows desktop systems. Also the AmigaDE will become integrated into the Amiga desktop operating system and will be able to run without change intent and Amiga Anywhere content.

The MP3 includes around 1 hour of Mr McEwen`s speech. Very interesting stuff! It is good to see that there are Amiga user community efforts like UGN trying so hard to help out other Amiga users. 🙂 (Very much unlike the Linux community -> you`re too stupid to understand this attitude!)

Thanks again for an insightfull and informative post on the Amiga Community.
Unfortunately, due to Interlectual Property disputes, there has been to much dis-information comming through on the “main-stream” Amiga forums. It is a breath of fresh air to get a clear insight into how the technology works etc.
As this is now being posted to “world & dog” it would be more professional if a tad of editing on the MP3 presentations were done.
Bills MP3 file has far to much “white space” making it overlarge and hard to follow in places (you will lose people with the large balnk sections). Can the MP3 be re-edited to make it more concise (and smaller).

The risk in editing is that you will be accused of censorship.
These MP3s can be made more audible with lavish use of a compressor.
Personally I wouldn’t like to see any audio cut out. This has a more genuine and complete feel to it, at least at being a live coverage. Even the piece where the audio was turned off gives some information on the amount of time Bill used for his speech.

Please note that this post was about AmigaDE and not AmigaOS. The two have nothing in common.

Perhaps giving two options, a “clearly” editied version for those that just want the “meat” of the message (and a smaller download” AND the original unedited version to validate the edited one. That way the end users can decide.
