Some day I’ll have to get a AltiVec enabled PPC machine… and having a good GCC will be GREAT!
Apple which will need to concentrate on Objective-C without the need to care a lot for Altivec (which they do today). The linux PPC folks which might not have a “good” altivec enabled gcc.
For those of you looking for an activec enabled gcc take a look at apple gcc branch (you can get it from http://www.opensource.apple.com).
MCG own metrowerks, what does this means for them ?
With the AmigaOne being out soon and AmigaOS4, this compiler will be very welcome. AmigaOS will support Altivec (in some instances).
This Mobo is an excelent choice for developers. Cheaper and well documented hardware, in contrast to Apples. The open source community and free software organisations should take notice. They’ve beenwait for cheaper more open PPC hardware, and now they have it.
Wow. This sounds like great news to my green ears. Time to find out more about this AmigaOne hardware.
