Today was a big day for Microsoft’s mobile devices software strategy.
The company: (1) rolled
out Pocket PC 2003 (and renamed it); (2) unveiled a new “Windows
Mobile” branding strategy; and (3) launched
a collaboration with three leading high-speed wireless service
providers to provide easier access to more than 3,500 Wi-Fi wireless “hot
spots” by Windows-powered PDAs throughout the US. All this (and more)

I think think unleashed might be a bit strong of a word.
I wonder when Linux will unleash kernel 2.4.12 on the world, with it’s best-of-breed bug fixes and refined driver updates.

This strikes me as a news event timed to draw attention away from the Apple news.
You better believe it is timed to take away from Apple!! In addition to that, guess who announced new P4 chips this morning? Coincidence that they were announced the day the G5 is having its coming out party?? What silly marketing games these companies play.

I have a Casio Cassiopia running Windows CE something or another. I found it to be mostly unusable. I finally bought a Handspring Visor, and have been happy ever since. I don’t think you could pay me enough to ever buy a Microsoft powered Palm-style computer.

Seems the only decent PDA with a keyboard ever made was the Vadem Clio. Everything else – Psions included – looks too tiny to be comfortable.
I guess no-one wants to tangle with the notebook market.

I had to share this with everyone, although its a little off topic. I was on the Microsoft website today looking for some info about Visual Basic. On the home page, I saw in the news section a headline that says “Spam is out of control, but we have plans to change that” After seeing this, I started laughing like crazy when I saw another headline on the same exact page under “business agility” that says “Try (microsofts) e-mail marketing free for 60 days”…some new feature for Office.
