Simon Phipps of Sun has responded to the recent criticism of Sun's openness, pointing out that even releasing information that they may already have costs a lot of money. "Jonathan asked me to look into this, to ensure we're pursuing an open path across all of Sun, not simply the software group. We take all input seriously, and we can't solve all problems for all parties, but we're committed to doing our best to faithfully engage with all the communities we serve, in the same spirit as the existing Open Source Ombudsman Scheme. With the support of my team and others in the community I'll try to build a new scheme that is fair and transparent."

Most Sun servers use PCI or PCI Express for I/O. PCI is little endian. Devices don't get specially made for endian differences on Sun boxes. The Sun I/O controller that bridges the CPU bus to the PCI bus does the conversion. So there are no special chips that 3rd parties make for Sun.
I don't think most of the low-end (High volume) Sun systems use fibre channel controllers on board. The current generation uses SAS/SATA controllers. So the same market that caters to Dell, HP and Apple also caters to Sun's I/O device needs.

That can't be the primary motivation in choosing a technology. Sun usually uses it's own drivers for Solaris. There are very few binary only Solaris drivers for SPARC. The same reason for why Sun doesn't have the Market clout to dictate terms also ensures that 3rd party vendors don't write Solaris SPARC drivers.

In several places around the web, the company is replacing the existing 'Talk' platform with a new one called 'Hangouts' that sharply diminishes support for the open messaging protocol known as XMPP (or sometimes informally Jabber), and also removes the option to disable the archiving of all chat communications. These changes represent a switch from open protocols to proprietary ones, and a clear step backward for many users." That's why I always say: only suckers trust companies.

The executive revealed that HTC sold about five million One units since launch, a performance that is deemed encouraging. Five million units amidst supply constraints is very impressive.

"The Verge has learned that HTC's Chief Product Officer, Kouji Kodera, left the company last week. Kodera was responsible for HTC's overall product strategy, which makes the departure especially notable on the heels of the global launch of the make-or-break One. It's not just Kodera. In the past three-odd months, HTC has lost a number of employees in rapid succession." I really hope HTC pulls it together.

Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's just. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and many more - these companies might not be breaking any laws, but it's obvious to anyone that what they are doing is scummy.

It depends on the market. For SATA adapters - that's true. They sell many more to DELL and HP than they do to Sun (or Apple that only pushes about 1.5 million boxes a quarter).
