Gnome Ars has reviewed GNOME 2.20. "GNOME 2.20 was officially released last week after six months of development. The new version includes strong incremental improvements that contribute to a better user experience and provide more flexibility and integration opportunities for third-party software developers."

Poppler is a PDF rendering library and doesn't have to be in GTK+ proper to be used to render the thumbnails for PDF files. The thumbnail mechanism will be extensible, just as it is now. So there can still be thumbnails in every app.

The problem up until now has been that the VFS layer has been too high in the stack so it was tedious to integrate in the lower parts.
