You don't need to install JRE (from Sun website) as Java comes with Fedora. You just need to install the web plugin with:

yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin

Openjdk != Sun java...

For instance, SAP's gui for java doesn't work with openjdk and requires sun's Java implementation.

I can imagine that many other software packages aren't compatible with openjdk either.

You may want to retry SAP's GUI on the Fedora 10 version of java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin. Red Hat did a lot of work to make IcedTea's plugin much more compatible in this release.
