Windows "Windows is indeed slower than other operating systems in many scenarios, and the gap is worsening." That's one way to start an insider explanation of why Windows' performance isn't up to snuff. Written by someone who actually contributes code to the Windows NT kernel, the comment on Hacker News, later deleted but reposted with permission on Marc Bevand's blog, paints a very dreary picture of the state of Windows development. The root issue? Think of how Linux is developed, and you'll know the answer.

ISS are using hardened machines for outerspace, not modern machines.

So? The ISS machines, modern or otherwise, for reasons of stability and supportability, are still going to be running Linux rather than Windows XP in the future.

Super computers != Desktop operating systems

True. Having said that, supercomputers do utilise operating systems, and many of the supercomputers on the top 500 list do utilise Intel CPUs. Furthermore, for reasons of scalability and speed, 462 of the top 500 supercomputers do use a Linux kernel, and there is, after all, only one Linux kernel source tree.

I could go on. We are talking about primarily desktop operating systems with Windows ... and none of the examples prove it is a desktop operating system.

No we aren't, we are talking about operating systems. This site is called "OSNews", which is short for "Operating System News". It doesn't say "Desktop Operating System News".

Lemur2, they guy that doesn't understand what a use case is or why it really matters when evaluating software.

Lucas_maximus, the guy that doesn't know what we are talking about under the topic of "Operating System News".
