Smart handheld devices or personal digital assistants (PDA) extend our access to the information on our desktops, from addresses to telephone numbers. Unfortunately, when it comes to vendor support for synchronizing this information with a *nix operating system, the options are limited. In this article, NewsForge reviews the various GPL-based suites available for synchronizing PalmOS-based devices with Linux. This one is of great interest too.
A good start, but I also connect PocketPCs, Kyocera cell phones, Garmin GPSes, and calculators. Some of these can be connected to non-Windows OSes with the use of emulators, and some devices come with both Windows and Mac desktop software. None of these included Linux software.

that they either would make a sync standard based on usb (not likely as its just a serial port and enables every maker and their dog to have their own sync protocol, user flexibility be damned, consumer lock-in be worshiped) or start putting bluetooth (it have ready profiles for use with tranfer of contacts and similar data from what i understand) into every pda as then the problem would more or less go away…
Why doesn’t Palm simply release a sinc for palm devices under Linux?
JUST ONE under GPL, the community will take care of the rest. It is not like I do not sync my palm under Linux, but it sucks royally to have to switch to Windows to get the pics out from my Zire 71.
Does anybody knows is it possible to sync the palm using WIFI in linux (instead of using IrDA or USB).

I run the Win32 version of Palm Desktop on my Warp box (via Odin) to get my m105 PalmPix.
Why not do the same with your Linux box using Wine?
Also I had my sister almost wiping off her Linux installation
cos Palm OS wouldn’t synchronize via USB whatever I tried.
I felt very embarrased even.
Thanks very much Palm!
Good to know you care … (not)
[should never have bought that dana alphacrap of yours also, bunch of uncaring idiots]
Except I still don’t understand why the community is all too willing to place sync and connection tools for PalmOS everywhere –it’s even included as part of a default install on most distros – but totally ignoring all of us who use Pocket PCs.
Spare me the whole ‘M$ is 3/1L’ scene, I know that they go out of their way to be incompatible; I just think it’s terrible to tell a whole class of users that they can’t use their 300-700 dollar devices because it isn’t politically correct…

i dont know what is worse
having connection tools that doesn’t work ever
or not having connection tools at all.
somehow i have a feeling pocket pc syncing is much easier to crack
search and u will find a lot of resources
but then again they could be all false promises
just like USB syncing for Palm.
