Coming patch tuesday, Microsoft will issue fixes for two Windows critical bugs, and one for Microsft Office, among others. In addition, here is a short interview with Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO. You can watch the video (140MB, Windows Media), or read the transcript.
How are MSN Messenger and Xbox 360 examples of innovation? They are merely evolutionary.
That’s fine though. Every product doesn’t have to be an amazing new paradigm shift, I’d just like the phony spin to stop.

Well said!
I’m a contrarian by nature (no I’m not), so I’d like to say something positive about Microsoft…
(sound of crickets…)
If I didn’t know any better I would have thought I was watching the intro of a bad porn movie starring Uncle Fester.
haha, that’s just too funny. i am always amazed by the annoying energy that ballmer gives off. how can someone be that happy all the time?
Because of all the money he have… ๐
Stevie better make this mpg download worthy by showing us some new dance move. ๐

I couldn’t agree more- I just wish blowhards like Ballmer would get a clue. Not everything has to be a revolution to be new or popular.
This follows the same concept that politicians tend to have high approval ratings during their first months in office- the newness is attractive. However, the most successful politicans in history are the ones that were the most popular near the end of their careers.
Companies like MS can benefit from making longer, stabler software instead of forcing the HOT NEW REVOLUTIONARY greatness on us again and again. There is only so many HOT NEW REVOLUTIONS that most people can take, or are willing to handle. They have become infatuated with the honeymoon period; they can not get beyond marketing and developing for that stage.

You’re totally right, but the fact is that MS is competing against its own products, and therefore must give the impression that whatever new products they come up with is “the next big thing”. Failure to generate enough hype about these products means that many people will not upgrade, therefore hurting MS sales. Since MS can hardly increase its market share anymore, its only chance to guarantee a revenue stream is to get current customers to buy the latest version…
I won’t download the movie, because it isn’t in a standard format.. ๐
And what do you call standard? Mpeg is only a standard in the same way that MS Office is a standard (aka a de facto standard). WMV is no less a standard than anything else out there.
Really, you won’t download it just because it uses a Microsoft format, even though it is supported on pretty much every single movie player out there.
…how about a media player that can play video while moving the player’s window around the screen like QuickTime is able to do, or maybe talk about Microsoft’s products/plans without saying “innovate”, “innovation”, “innovative”, or “innovating”. He could have knocked off a couple of minutes from the interview had he not been so worried about making sure we know Microsoft innovates. Either that or he doesn’t realize you only need to say a word three times before it is yours.
“how about a media player that can play video while moving the player’s window around the screen”
Because that’s how I like to watch my videos…dragging the window around the screen :-).
