Privacy, of course, is a major concern, Smith said. A few years ago, Intel got stung when it put serial numbers on processors. Basic location services can also disclose embarrassing information; no one wants a phone that would disclose you’ve been in the local jail for a few hours. Consumers should have complete control over turning the tracking mechanism off or on, he said.
As long as i can turn it of and there isn’t a history of where i have been stored somewhere it sounds useful. One advantage of GPS is that you are in control of tracking yourself compaired to this where someone else is in control of tracking you I don’t like it.
Of course Intel will say “think about the children”. The poor missing children that could be located with AmberWiFinder. No more will rescue services have to rely on expensive GPS. Your child’s implanted WiFinder chip (Intel Inside) will save your child from evil child molesters. Or even better… will able your trusted government to track down terrorists. Because anyone without Intel Inside WiFinder chip is of course… a terrorist.
Now who wants to know what spyware is built into Intel’s latest processors?
what in the hell are you babbling about. literally you have a really incoherent borderline retarded rant going on.
do you beleive the garbage you spew?
intel can and always will suck nuf said
The article claims GPS doesn’t provide “height.” I think they mean altitude, in which case they are wrong. My Garmin 18 GPS provides altitude when it’s connected to enough satellites.
Also, how do cell phones already implement location technology? My cheap phone does. Also a few years ago it was in the news that spouses got caught cheating using cell phone location.
are you refering to CELL ID? which some Networks provide it is based on the tranmitters location which the Cell phone is attached to, in UK vodaphone afaik is the only provide to supply this, and it displays the Location in terms of phone area code.
another way to keep tabs on the general public – just wait until business can triangulate your physical position in the *local mall*, each vowing for your unprecedented attention through sms messages and whatever the future may bring.
I personally think the public should fight to keep the airwaves free – and one’s identity, location private.
an interesting art project http://mdcn.ilesansfil.org/
And I’m not kidding, one cell phone operator (movistar) offers GPS-like services, like the nearest gas station, stores, restaurants. All you need to do is send *911# on a PCS cell phone.
If you speak spanish, you can check their webpage at http://www.movistar.cl
Greetings!
Alejandro.
The article mentioned that parents could check up on their kids. So what happens if a kid loses the phone or, if kidnapped, the kidnapper tosses the phone? Lot of good it does to track the phone.
Also, what happens if you’re in an area that doesn’t have wifi, such as rural areas? Or if a WiFi transmitter is moved? It would make more since to have a dual-use phone that has both GPS and WiFi. It could switch between them as necessary.
Finally, the article is incorrect that GPS doesn’t show height, as previously noted. How would it be useful to the military if it couldn’t show height?
I don’t think GPS provides height information inherently, but a standard receiver does some triangulation to approximate it, probably not unlike what Intel’s trying to do here. BUT, where GPS is accurate to within a couple of feet, the altitude stuff is often hundreds of feet off.
i got tired of T-Mobile because I was getting a lot of static and other problems, and I switched to Nextel.
Nextel is a different story. I love the walkie-talkie feature and works to perfection. For my surprise it also
has a GPS feature that you can use and it works!!!!! I did not have to spend a lot of money on a GPS device.
I am very happy with my Nextel. I wished I could have known before.
