From ActiveWin: “Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 users can now access the brand new and convenient Windows Update version 4 website after they download an update on the actual Windows Update website. Windows Automatic Updating feature notifies you when critical updates are available for your computer. This feature replaces Critical Update Notification if it is already installed. Critical Update Notification will no longer offer critical updates.”
Now I have something to look forward to.

And what exactly would that be? Would you care to explain what’s getting you excited here? If you have tons of Windows machines to maintain, every new critical update makes your life that much difficult.
I think wath he ment was that windows update 4 is much nicer to use, I think that too.
IIRC, it can in Windows XP. Can it be with this update? I’d rather not have a stable system pulled out from under me because MS thinks it knows best.
Any fix to the broken unusable DPMI host that shipped with Windows 2000? Thanks for nothing Microsoft.
“Would you care to explain what’s getting you excited here?”
Lots of things get me excited here. The newest computers, to the latest drivers and reviews. Geez I don’t know where to start. I really get excited about the latest news about FreeBSD and the kernel number makes me jump for joy. Sometimes when I feel sad and lonely I open my fav homepage http://www.osnews.com and read how many giga flops the newest nvidia card is pushing, and I feel all creamy inside. Then it’s like a ray of light, and splash of seawater, and a wipe of speed stick deodorant under my arm feeling. osnews, we the people love you so much that if you were a collective person we would stalk you!
hehe
Worked perfectly on two desktop systems, broke itself on my laptop. Damn.
all the old critical update notifcation was, a task scheduler item that polled microsoft every 5 minutes! it was a huge joke.
Oooh I just love that blank screen feeling I get from v4.windowsupdate.com…..
*mutter mutter*
I’m not much of a Windows user any more, so I’m not equipped to check out this latest versioon. But I do administer a handful of Win2k systems, so I’m curious as to what it’s about.
So is this a Good Thing that everybody would want to rush to? Are there any hidden gotchas that some may want to avoid? I mean, I like having software up to date, but I don’t want to find out that I just installed MS spyware after it’s too late! Has anybody monitored the new version to see what goes in and out? Does the license agreement contain any clauses, like agreeing to give all of our money and first-born to Microsoft?
Well I just got my first introduction to the new Windows Update. I had no choice, it came up that way by default. The interface is more logical when it comes to process flow. It was less friendly when it came to waiting. I had no idea whether it was working or if it had stopped! But the automatic default selections makes up for it. Overall it looks pretty good. Now if it has spyware, that will be another story…
