Thom, you must understand what are You writing about. Theo De Raadt is the leader of OpenBSD community, not NetBSD.

btw.: If NetBSD would announce that “Support for MacPPC G5 is in progress” it would probably take ages (approx. until 2010) until the final release. I guess OpenBSD will have stable G5 support in 3.9, cool! Thanks Theo!

Most of the macppc port of OpenBSD is based on NetBSD, with little differences other than moving stuff between files and renaming stuff, plus OpenBSD’s “security through obfuscation” approach to code. The easiest way to get code into OpenBSd is to get it committed to NetBSD first.
In case Theo claims down the road to have done this before NetBSD and to be saving the world in spite of ourselves, here’s the dmesg Tsubai Masanari posted for an Apple G5:

Once or twice a year, usual aroung the OpenBSD Hackathon (called Portathon by insiders) the OpenBSD hackers come up with great stuff on their own AND port a lot of NetBSD code to OpenBSD.
This is an example of NetBSD code being ported to OpenBSD.
I like OpenBSD and NetBSD.
It is good to exchange code.
There’s nothing wrong with sharing code. But I like to mention that in this case the work has not come from NetBSD.
It is original code, written by Mark Kettenis and Dale Rahn.

Thanks for fixing the mistake. For a while it seemed every time OpenBSD added a new arch someone would raise a stink because they got a lot of the code from NetBSD. While that might have been the case for some archs (amd64) it doesn’t appear to be the case here.

For the record, topics I find acceptable on this site are:
a) OS’s (duh)
b) software that runs on OS’s
c) hardware that OS’s run on
d) political/financial issues that effect all of the above
e) anything the owners of the site want to post (with the typical exceptions of racial/religious slander, kiddie porn, you get the idea).
