“As the Internet has grown in popularity so too have threats against computer users; making it critical for individuals and companies to employ effective security strategies to protect their critical information. Microsoft created the Microsoft Security Response Centre (MSRC) to investigate, fix and learn about security vulnerabilities and to help keep customers protected from malicious attacks.” So, did it fair well?
Yes, it seems like it did fair well, but it’s an on-going process.
No virii, No eula, No doom, and oh yes no bluescreen

MS strategy:
1- Make operating systems with poor security
2- Make the people addicted to these trash
3- Buy an antivirus company
4- Let people try for free the beta versions
5- Put your antivirus on every windows copy sold to break competition
6- Terminate the freeware period and begin to sell this service
7- Profit
this is 100% correct.
we should no longer refer to or address Microsoft in terms of security.
Windows has been plagued since the beginning and nothing has changed in terms of a real security initiative since Microsoft’s inception.
if i were a customer, i would move elsewhere because there are better options now with clear strategies for growth.
not just plugging hole after hole.
“1- Make operating systems with poor security”
“2- Make the people addicted to these trash”
if people keep ordering and eating $hit then MS will just keep serving it.
English is not everyones first language. Perhaps the subject of this email should be entitled “Politeness”?
“English is not everyones first language.”
Then perhaps they should not be writing english summaries on an english language site? That’s a bit harsh of course, but they should at least be ready to accept critiques so they can improve.
I can converse easily in German, but wouldn’t dream of creating a German translation for a user interface (for something that mattered). Has to be a native speaker.
I disagree.
I’m not a native in english, but I still create websites in english.
This is necessary if you want the broadest possible audience.
Besides, ‘fair’ isn’t really the wrong word. It can be used in that meaning as it were used.
Anyway, it’s a fact that MS has managed to increase security.
Baloney. The speeling in minny online articuls has becum atroshus. I hope U dont “loose” points.
Somebody has been reading too many /. comments… [grin]
That’s all this article communicates.
There are no CONCRETE results of their work from anywhere, and the only results at all are from “customers tell us…”.
There is not a bloody thing here to tell me if they are doing better or worse in this “12 months of Progress”.
Please, next time you submit an article, title it correctly, such as “Latest Microsoft PR campaing on their current security whizzbang”.
Affecting Windows SP 2 ?
Seems like security is not more a selling point for Linux.
We should try changing strategy –
selling user-friendliness and multimedia readiness instead.
Well if vista turns out to be a well written product seems like a lot of naysayers will have to eat their own words. Time will tell if MS has actually improved or not….not lame articles like these.
