“The first release candidate of GNOME 2.0 (GNOME 2.0 RC1, also known as “Fever Pitch”) was announced on June 14, 2002, and is spreading across the ‘Net like wildfire. This article examines what’s new in GNOME 2.0 and the release candidate, where to find it, how to install it, and concludes by discussing whether or not to install it as well as a crystal-ball look at some of the implications of GNOME’s successes to date and GNOME 2.0’s potential for the future.” Read the article at LinuxPlanet.
Does gnome-session from gnome 2 rc1 freebsd port merely segfault for anyone else using FreeBSD?
(4.6-STABLE)
humm, not tried from ports. MetaCity doesnt build right from ports so i decided to go for packages via sysinstall … works fine here
it crashes quite often, though
I highly recommend that people check out this web site with some new icons for GNOME 2 (by the guys who did the original icons):

Frankly, I always thought the original GNOME icons were pretty unattractive, but the new ones are actually rather nice.
BTW RC2 is out now, today was suppose to be the Gnome 2.0 release date, but, it got delayed, and RC2 was released instead. Great work to all the Gnome folks, and I am looking forward to checking out Gnome 2.0 when it is “officially” released!

For someone who is relatively new to Linux, which distro is the best choice for getting Gnome 2 RC1/2 up and running along with KDE 3 the easiest?
And please don’t say Slackware … I got 8.1 a couple of days ago, and can’t get the res above 640×480

Ximian allows you to install GNOME 2.0 with Red Carper; pretty easy to install; but I don’t know how they would mix with 1.4.1, because I don’t have that installed. Garnome is quite good, but is quite big (the packages).
But anyway, for those who are “relatively new to Linux” do you think that Slackware is the completely wrong distrro you choosed? And also, welcome abroad!
