Users of Java-capable cell phones anywhere may find browsing the Web easier and cheaper now that Opera Software is allowing anyone to download its Opera Mini application. The official worldwide launch of Opera Mini is planned for January but Opera has quietly lifted restrictions that previously allowed only residents of some Nordic countries and Germany to download the application, a spokesperson has confirmed.
Have just downloaded and installed on my Nokia 6630. It appears to be pretty good – I’ve only looked at this site and a couple of others so far, but rendering is fast, once you turn on smoothed fonts theres more on the screen. Shame there doesnt seem to be a way to tell it to use landscape rather than portrait….
From what i have heard its great.
Didn’t Google want to buy Opera?
Didn’t Google want to buy Opera?
Google will end up buying all our souls.
It can only use port 80 — no luck for T-Mobile port 8080 users. (is this really that hard to fix?)
Requires Java. So far so good. At the very least, it definitely beats the default browser on my Treo.
Hi, How could I download it to Nokia 6100? It only has WAP browser by default but opera webpage says to open mini.opera.com.
I have tested it on quite a few devices and it is really excellent. This is really like the most you can get on a 128×128 screen running a J2ME app. They have their own fonts and all. This is really far beyond what other j2me web browsers do. Really nice work.
I wish they’d built also an RSS reader for J2ME. I have tried dozens of them and they all suck one way or another.
PS: For the port 80 thing, they could fix it in a minute. I’d say, just ask them. Why the hell does T-Mobile block port 80 ???
Has anybody managed to run it on SE T610? I have GPRS profile in my phone and use it for the built-in browser, but when I enter an address in Opera, the phone says that some error happened and my browsing experience may be limited. After that, the progress indicator doesn’t go any further than zero.
How can I run this on my computer?
