Atari 8-bit fans have long hankered after a GUI similar to GEOS on the Commodore 64. Diamond GOS went some way to addressing this deficiency, and since then there have been several creditable attempts at implementing a GUI OS on the A8. Now there’s another one in the pipeline: an as yet unnamed project which aims to bring a pre-emptive multi-tasking graphical operating system to the 8-bit Atari.
This is a seriously impressive project with ambitious goals, and it looks great considering the hardware it’s running on.
Wasn’t this already posted here ages ago? I don’t know if FJC has had the drive / time to add more to it for quite some time. Still cool.
I think it was more about SymbOS on CPC.
Anyway “it looks great considering the hardware it’s running on”. When you consider Windows 10 barely better in term of UI, yet the hardware it’s running on is light years ahead, one should question something.
Looks like they’ve done some pretty good work there. Interesting!
Everything on that page dates from 2015, except for the YouTube video from 2018. So seems like quite old news.
It’s old tech anyway. Wanna something cool ? Watch this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e0fRKHG7Hk (Watching YouTube on a Commodore Pet)
