AMD said it increased its share of the x86 server processor market to 25.9 percent, a number confirmed by Mercury Research’s Dean McCarron, who tracks market share figures. Intel now holds 72.9 percent of the overall market for x86 processors, while AMD has 21.6 percent.
where’s Sun? IBM? You don’t really believe that intel/amd control 93 1/2% of the SERVER market, do you?
Sun opterons would be a part of that share. Not sure if IBM makes an AMD powered blade yet but I’d think they would count too.
It says 93.6% of the overall market. It doesn’t mention how much of the server market Intel still has.
Note: x86 server processor market. Sun/IBM make what x86 CPUs exactly?
<opens eyes> sorry- my bad. thanks for waking me up
While those figures represents the overall installed base, I wonder what % of servers shipped for the past 1 year is AMD. It would be interesting if AMD sells more than Intel as it would have been very damaging to them. But moving forward, AMD is expected to lose ground in the months to come.
AMD is toast, anyway.
