Here you can find the latest updates to QNX Momentics. These packages contain software to update your development environment. For the NC version, you would be able to download the PhShutdown and PhLocale Security patches and a Package Filesystem patch.
Last time I tried to download Momentics the sever (or my ISP) disconnetd me after 78 MBytes, (at a ~195 MBytes download) on a 56 Kbps.
Sorry if I’m just “whining” here… but it costed me dial up money.
So complain to your government and ISP. Your telephone system is probably owned by the government, right? Tell them to join the 20th century (and I *know* it’s now the 21st!).
And, QNX absolutely rocks. Go to:
http://web.kyoto-inet.or.jp/people/press/nudes/world/C_SHADOW/index…
and send me an email with your address and I’ll burn the CDs and mail the to you.
The problem with the QNX servers is that they do not support resuming. I tried with GetRight and resuming doesn’t work. So it is QNX’s fault as well, not just the Portugal government’s.
There are a pile of servers all over the world actually, and it uses DNS server locality to pick which one you use. I think many of them do support resuming.
It kept crapping out on me too so I asked my ISP and they downloaded it and burned it to cd for me, at no charge. It helps if it’s a small. personal service sort of ISP and you’re in credit 🙂
I never got my gfx card on my laptop to work with beos, so I installed QNX. Have to admit it rocks, however, neither my wlan pccard or my regular ethernet card works. Does anybody know where to find tutorials on how to make things like these work for qnx, found alot for beos but it ain’t fun having to surf in b/w 640×480…
I also have tried downloading QNX two times in the past several days. Twice failed due to the non-support of download resumption. (Was using GetRight). Is it mirrored anywhere that does support download resumption, which is pretty much neccessary to get an image of that size over 56k?
Hm, I rememeber I should do a “shopping list” for my friends with super-fast-corporate-owned access
Seriously, we should demand that servers should support resume downloads. The Intenet will be better with this.
And Eugenia and Corey: Portugal Telecom is a private company, so don’t blame Portuguese gov’t. IIRC in the Eurozone only Germany and France still haven’t privatised their telcos.
Ok Batmen & Women, riddle me this:
Can you list for me/others here what rocks about QNX? Aside from the pretty desktop and interesting environment, what does it do that Linux/BSD/Windoze wont? Im just curious really since I tried it with 4.0 and it was ok but there were jack sh1t for apps available and it didnt play well with win2000.
QNX is so much faster than an X Windows system it isn’t even funny. It boots faster too.
well its suckin down now from their FTP we shall see!
Thank you very much Corey !
The problem is not with my ISP nor the Phone Company (Portugal Telecom is a quite modern ~half-private phone company with big investments in Brasil phone companies’s also).
The problem is with the mirrors (this should be programed to disconnect if some info doesn’t get collected from your machine and sent back to the servers during downloading, thus no resume possible (for a developers OS this is not a bright decision)
I use a win32 personal firewall but I turned it off on the second and next attempts.
The download form changed the mirror when you answered the “country” form to begin downloading (it did for me at least and I tried with 3 different European contries 🙂 No luck (3 times disconnected).
I’m very curious with QNX Momentics and I hope there will be more software now (Abiword and Mozilla are already ported and were essential for QNX). And there is the Java software to try.
Why it rocks ? My feeling is it was pretty light and fast (compared with win2k) and stable (compared with Linux). I’m only talking about my defunct version 4 ? installation which resided on a FAT partition (still fast on FAT).
Tutorials ? I don’t know if you will get those but the best place to try is (I go there often) >

Well…Portugal sounds better and better! I’m still alittle ticked off at the ser ice (or lack thereof) when I was in Holland 2 years ago. Sky high prices and very slow. Here in Taiwan I pay less than $40US a month for 24 hour access with no data transfer charges….and it’s FAST. Downloading QNX or almost anything else takes very little time….and the price of CDs is sweet!
Portugal Telecom is private, but it’s a monoly. I can only hope the Microsoft trial influenciate the rest of the world. I pay about 225 euros/dollars per month for a PoS 56k connection, and it’s far from being 24 hours on(that would cost an arm and a leg). Any broadband connection is cheaper than this. And then, they are suprised to see that Portugal is one of the contries with the most faster broadband expansion/growth. Still the broadband is expensive compared to other euro contries.
Sorry for the offtopic, but i couldn’t resist…
monoly = monopoly
Pop over to #qnx on irc.qnxzone.com if you need any help. Or heck, post on the QNX forum here on osnews.com.
Downloaded the iso, that went well, install went allright, except that it doesn’t reconise my cdrom when booting
in qnx… Can’t find my drives in the filemanager or on the desktop … and my tablet is only recognised in mouse mode… so that limits the amount of time I can spend in it.. the mouse acceleration settings are weird.
For less than $40/month you can have ADSL or cable (> 512 kbps) over here too. That’s no big deal.
