A new release of dwn is available. “dwm is a dynamic window manager for X. It manages windows in tiled and floating layouts. Either layout can be applied dynamically, optimizing the environment for the application in use and the task performed. It is the little brother of wmii.”
Does anyone here have a favorite tiled wm to recommend that is appropriate for daily use?
I’ve always been curious if they are ready for “prime time”.
I’ve been using dwm for months, it’s definely ready for ‘prime time’.
anyone know where to find a changelog?
I’ve been using wmii for several months now without any problems at all. I haven’t had any crashes, bad performance, or otherwise negative effects from using it.
It took me a while to get the keybindings to my preference (more like the editor joe, less like the editor emacs) and make some neat shell scripts for monitoring wireless, battery, etc. to put in the bottom thingy, but once that was done all was smooth sailing.
I’d say it took me two to three days to get it set up to my liking and I haven’t changed anything since.
From the norm. I happen to be a fan of the nice, GUI-configurable sort of WM (and WindowMaker is about as minimalist as I’ll go), but I could see this being useful if back-ported to X11R5 and used on some cruddy old workstation that somebody has lying around to play with.
I use ion everyday, for work and play. Much more efficient than I ever was in Gnome.
